    Hey there,

I'm roadtesting a camera for Sony soon and I'd love to get some shots of a friend's car in some cool places. Maybe some drift as well, so would have to be private property for that.

However wouldn't mind empty car parks and scenic places for still shots.

Any around north Brissy you guys know of? Particularly interested in abandoned roads/empty car parks.

    Cheers!

P.S: I couldn't decide if this should be in the Photography or Motoring section :S

Any major shopping centre carpark after the shops close is a good location for car photography. Concrete columns and darkened areas combined with depth of field and a well placed remote or bounce flash can make for good atmospheric shots.
A few years back after I'd detailed my car I took some shots of it at Brookside shopping centre late at night. As long as you don't do anything silly like burnouts the security people tend to leave you alone. At Brookside the front carpark is chained off at night, but the one under Woolies is open as the nightfill staff park there. Not hard to find a corner with no other cars in frame for shots.

The rooftop section there or at Westfield Chermside would be OK to get some clear open concrete underneath and a starry sky in background.
Any Bunnings carpark provides open sections of asphalt and usually some good light for shiny paint reflections.

Another idea is one of those car wash cafe's or Car lovers as this would tie in a theme.

Depending on the colour of your car, there's a car park under QPAC (I think it's QPAC? you can see it when walking along the river) in at SouthBank which would be pretty cool - it's really really bright white, almost clinical in its surroundings - a bright coloured car would really punch in that. You do have to pay to get in there.

Alternatively, there's a car park at the roof top of Coorparoo Mall on Old Cleveland Road which is dark and dingy in the corners, would have a bit of an industrial feel (since it's all exposed metal walls up there). It's open for the Coorparoo Markets, but thanks to the shitty advertising for the markets, it is rarely busy / full. No fee to get in that car park.

Can you still drive into the Hamilton train yard with the abandoned carriages? Obviously it's QR property so it won't be legal.

Last I heard you could, but there is that question about legality. Though it's been a known location for some time, I think as long as you're not 'tarding it up and hooning around then you should be fine. YMMV.
