I'm actually pretty impressed with my Huawei Ascend so far.

What happens when you try to unlock? You need to running a Developer rom for the unlock to be successful.

For $190 or so it seems like a decent price. Are there any considerations to look at with the Xiaomi Redmi 3 Pro when it will be destined to be used on the Telstra network?

I wouldn't get one. No Global or Custom ROM. That's a deal-killer for me. Get the Note - it's not much more.

redmi note 3 can be had as cheaply as $140USD inc shipping on aliexpress. its what id get 8 days of the week over the non-note model.

in any event if youre on telstra id think twice about any china-phone, as the vast majority do not support 700mhz 4G.

im using an infocus M560 at the moment which does support 700mhz 4G and can be had for just over $100USD inc shipping - with a great 5.2" 1080p display and a unibody aluminium build, its a real dark horse contender IMO.

    Thanks for the advice.

As for the Band 28/700MHz 4G support, not many phones support this band? My current Lumia 930 doesn't support it, is this the new "4GX" band or something? Can I go on the consideration that if it supports 4G 1800MHz then it'll be doing about the same speeds as what I currently have and I won't be downgrading my mobile speeds?

The InFocus M560 looks nice, the product presentation doesn't indicate it does 4G 700MHz band though? One thing I'd like to get in moving to a different phone is retain a Qi wireless charging. I'm a bit miffed that there aren't too many phones which integrates this off the bat. Any suggestions here?

    FDD-LTE Band 28 = 4GX

Just watch out for the 700mHz thing, as Band 29 and Band 12 are also 700mHz, but are not 4GX AFAIK

    Also, isn't there CM13 for Redmi 3?

It's not that stable yet. Still a bit of a mess. Otherwise I'd grab one. The 16GB ROM / 2GB RAM version is the one you want if you want ROMs. It's much more popular. The Redmi 3 pro doesn't make much sense to me as you'd might as well go for the Redmi Note 3 Pro for just a little more.

What are the versions? afaict there's plain old Redmi 3, then Pro, then Note? I just wanted a cheap POS dual-sim, but it's harder to root & ROM than a Samsung? :(

Go Lenovo K3 Note if you want a cheap dual SIM phone, just be aware that the second SIM is 2G only. They can be had for $135, but rooting and ROMing is necessary. VibeUI is unbearable.

Don't forget that the Note 3 and Note 3 Pro comes in "prime" versions as well, which have 32GB flash and 3GB RAM.

Note 3 Pro (Kenzo) has official CM nightlies now. Good times!

The Indian version of the LeEco Le2 with the Snapdragon 652 also looks pretty sweet.

Yep I just flashed CM13 on my Redmi Note 3 last night and it seems pretty slick and stable so far. I didn't really know what I was doing but managed to follow some guides and work it out.

Still waiting on my delivery of this - will post once I've got it

Looks good on the screen and Band 28, but a bit light under the hood - hopefully means they'll start releasing more band 28 options though!

You've also got to be careful when buying one overseas. There are alot of fakes going around especially on Ali Express.

Wouldn't it be easier to get it locally? Unless I'm missing something.

How is it a bit light under the hood? Snapdragon 650 is no slouch.
