Think you are out of luck. Looking on the AQIS site I find this:

    http://www.aqis.gov.au/icon32/asp/e...to+full+text&intSearch=1&LogSessionID=1780653

    Condition C9108
AQIS Live Animal Imports facilitates the import of animals and reproductive material into Australia.

AQIS does this by applying import conditions that are determined by Biosecurity Australia.

Biosecurity Australia has not developed import conditions for this animal and as such AQIS cannot facilitate your import.

Which I think is bureaucrat speak saying they are not allowed to be imported

Yeah, not allowed them locally because if they got into the wild they'd probably LOVE the climate.

Pity in a way because they are cute little buggers.

    What the hell?!

It looks like a really really really really really really really fat dog.. but.. a little one.

Are they a kind of rabbit or something?

EDIT: Wikipedia to the rescue.. its a rodent. :)

They look cute but they are not lap/cuddle animals at all - bite and scratch, piss on your furniture - apparently quite tasty and of course well used in the fur trade.
