    Does look sweet, but really! I know there is big money in it, but at what point is it really competitive any more when he has custom boards, graphics LN2 etc.

    Sure you very much need to know what your doing, but having those resources would make it very easy.

    I have more respect for guys like you shane, off the shelf gear and hard work.

    That's very kind of you :D Your my new best friend ... look out as I get a little wild. Hehe

    Big money on the Kingpin table. Figure about $10K without the water cooling. It's these elite extreme guys though on the world stage,
    many overclockers aspire to be like. The legends in their ranks & peers.

    I have no desire to be as powerful or as good as them. But they are the WoW factor, hitting massive scores.
    Always for me it's the little guys trying. That far more enjoyable watching their efforts learning & trying to go faster :thumbup:

    Has that board (eVGA X299) proven itself yet? I see a few people jizz their pants on the PCMR Facebook group over it but so far everyone seems to be dumping it and going back to the Apex.

    I don't have any idea about that stuff OJR. Just know it's a sweet wet dream rig that one with all the cores. 20x cores? Is that the biggest.
    Briefly back in the day I tried a x79 Gigabyte UD5 iirc with the gimped 3820.
    Not for me, even though quad channel is nice & I never got the hang of the gear ratio. Never worked for me, to much to learn back then

    I'm hanging out for a 8core 9700K to be released, that thing will be a beast & help big time to make better scores :wired:
    ___________

    Shortest lifespan perhaps Coffeelake. Hope z370 can support 8 core with bios update.

    1.40 Bios was on Asrocks site before they pulled it. It had the microcode for the security fix in it but was pulled as people with other manufacturers security fix were causing reboots.
    I've been lucky and have not had any problems with the 1.40 bios so have not reverted to the 1.30 bios.

    Maybe the message has been getting through to Asus, they've been updating their Aura software a bit recently. About time.

    bleh
    used the above settings.
    LLC = 5

    ran small fft prime 95 (temp rose to 80+C probly gets higher if i ran it longer)
    @4700mhz all cores synced
    with the settings in the youtube video it downclocks to 800mhz. but runs about 10C higher at idle. (from 30 to 40C) for 400mhz more clocks under load
