Yeah same with me, I never really have any particular reason to change firmware but figure if it's especially got performance enhancements then I might as well upgrade.

Just out of lockdown boredom I started playing with XTU again.
Simply cannot get 5ghz - even on what reads as 1.4v.

    On the flip side however...

Might have to prime this and see if it holds.
Nup. Thermal throttles too fast in the small fft, crashes on blend.

Still, interesting it goes that low at all.
Wonder if a delid is the way to go. The cooler was rated to 130w iirc.
Hmm. Might be AVX. Trying without.

How many hours would you guys recommend running prime 95 small ftt for to confirm good overclock?

a couple of hours will do , if its going to crash because of instability it will well before the time is up
OCCT is better than prime 95, cpu, gpu stress test, that really gives them a workout

I never even used to bother with hours worth of testing.

20 runs of IBT @ high setting
    2 hours of prime 95

She is stable but to be 1000% sure id do prime95 overnight. IBT takes out 95% of bad overclocks.

I used to run prime 95 and heaven benchmark simultaneously. For me this seemed to crash faster with unstable overclocks compared to other methods - and it would almost always crash the program rather than blue screen.

Not sure if this is actually sound advice, or just worked for me with my particular hardware config.

    None what so ever.
As t8y member would say " 15 minutes of LinX 0.64 was all that is needed " Then run your system normal stuff you do for the week.
Unstable? Then bump the Vcore up a bit.
    _______

These days I just do some basic Cinebench runs and I can dial in each multi easily. Used to it with all the processors I bought over the years
