in the past mainstream and enthusiast was two different lines, cpu and motherboard

i do believe there is still seperate cpu'S, however not a seperate socket.

No idea how they are going to implement this, as 7740k having dual channel mem, and the 7920x having hex channel.

Cant wait to see what i get to play with!!!

the upgrade will be more worth it when coffee lake comes out, its 14nm same as kabylake which makes me believe itll use the same 1151 socket/z270 chipset

also the quads without ht? whats the point? kaby already have these

im actually considering upgrading to a lower end kaby right now then upgrade to coffee when it comes out, but there no confirmation that coffee will use the 1151 just for the extra mobo goodies.

Well they could be dropping the K series CPUs on the main stream socket going forward, otherwise why would you have the same CPU on two different sockets?

If it's true, Intel's about the show the world just how severely they've been dogging enthusiasts for the past few generations.

I understand a lack of competition will influence things, but the underlying facts are that they've had the R&D done for some time, as there's no way you'd turn around a uArch this quickly without some hefty earlier investment.

Something sketchy with the figures there. Why would the 12 core chip have ~20% better single thread performance than then 10 core?

doesn't make business sense to release something if there is no competition.
either way we ALL have exciting times ahead with these releases !
    AMD OR INTEL

Question is, should someone who just had their x79 mobo completely die on them be smart to upgrade to X99 now because they can't wait? Or will X299 really be much better?

wait for x299 imo, its not worth upgrading to a platform that's about to be replaced.

I was in this exact situation

    I had a 3930k @ 4.66ghz

my mobo died last friday. So I bought a Ryzen system

I am regretting this decision now

    should have stuck with intel

X299 has made z270 and x99 redundant. Hype is real.

Attached is the ASRock x299 OC Formula, direct from Computex.[IMG]

so coffee lake is 6 core for pleb socket?
    how many mem channels?

i remember hearing someone say that, intel said triple channel is needed if 6 core is to max out mem bandwidth (yes I know, not everyone will need all that mem bandwidth)... if intel bring out 6 core with dual channel.... lulz, lame

What's it not doing that an Intel system did?

Dual channel is most certainly enough for 6 cores and 6+8MB L3.

    the 4.66Ghz part i'm guessing.
