Perhaps it's time to give Gigashat another crack?
Dino will have a field day with this.
With Z170/Z270, I've found my friend's Gigabyte Z170X Gaming G1 to require a bit extra Vcore to get the same overclock as another friend's Asus Maximus Hero 9 (7700k). Was also way hotter, thanks to no VCC PLL option. The Maximus Hero 9 had significantly lower CPU temps (same CPU), and required less voltage than both my Asrock and the Gigabyte board.
My AsrockZ270 Extreme4 was also a giant paint in the ass, with VRM throttling being a thing, requiring active cooling for a 5Ghz 7700k.
Interesting to see if it's the same on Z370.
haha oh man x58 days. Those were a blast..... bent pins for days, dead memory slots, dead PCI Slots.
GA warranty though is top notch.
Slowly slowly getting used to this puppy. Up to 49x (1.35v) and XMP (3200 14's). Just upping multi (on all cores) and set vcore to 1.35 and XMP profile - no other changes atm.
VERY HAPPY. Arma 3 (which I play alot of) has gone from 40fps on my firstname.lastname@example.orgGhz to now 90fps (@3440x1440). Temps look ok at ~70 degrees (undelidded). Next stop 5Ghz.
Those dirkastani's will not know what hit them!
This Asus bios is all foreign to me and it's taking me soooo long to understand what does what. Still, I no complain!
My mate has 3D printed the delidder for me and I have some liquid metal (Conductanought) ready to go tomorrow. Fun times.
use google translate. But yeah strange how its not reporting the correct power usage.
MSI and GB BIOS was pretty average on my Ryzen board, My Asus with the C6H was spot on but BIOS was slower to be released than their counterparts
"Coffee lake.....really is the king of gaming".....
....that's my take away. Thanks for coming.
Rocking an 8700k and a small whisky tonight makes me wanna go crazy with other gear
Kinda thinking a new case maybe.....Phantek Enthoo Evolv....mmmmm.
Have to resist.....
Eta is next week at scorptec.
The board is on their website but not if u search for it. I googled the board and a link came.up.
I spoke to my mate at scorptec who did the order for me
Whats better then two apex's (z270,x299)?
But i wouldnt be suprised if it gets delayed. Haha
eta was Friday according to last message I received and hopefully tomorrow will remove the inside of my PC and get it ready for delivery on Wednesday

What does everyone think about the 8350k for just gaming?
Going from a 4770k.
Paired with a 1080ti
0 Benefit. Your 4770k is probably faster.
Going to ask a similar question but from 4770k to 8350k I'd stick with what you've got as you're losing the extra threads.
Now, I'm currently running a 4790k @4.7ghz (might delid to get a bit higher) and a 1080ti, 16GB 2400Mhz Ram and 1440P/144Hz/G-Sync. From a purely gaming perspective is it worth the upgrade to 8700k?
Apart from playing with new shiny toys which is always a bonus , I'm thinking probably not at the moment. Wifey would probably kill me anyway lol.
it is what it is a great chip at that price point....but id prefer a 6 core.
which means...8600k $400+ish+ aud @ 5.0GHz bare minimum spec for an upgrade from another 4 core. for me anyway.
I'd just de-lid and stick with it. 8700k is good, but a highly clocked 4770k is still incredibly strong.
Here's the difference between my old 3770k vs the 8350k, both at 4.7ghz. Of course physics scores dropped (4c4t vs 4c8t) but combined scores got a nice boost.
Under 3% fps improvement, I'd call that a waste of time/money.
hahaha yeh it is but the i3 is just a bit of fun for now til i find that elusive 8700k
what does this mean?
