hey guys I am following Dinos guide from here:

I have a 8700k and gaming 7 mobo. I am struggling to get a stable 5ghz overclock. I am currently at 1.34 vcore but the temperature is hitting 90+ and this has been delidded by headin. This is my cooler: http://noctua.at/en/nh-d15s

    What am i doing wrong?

What are you testing in mate? I wouldn't expect it that much on air tbh, you sure you have a good mount?

The R5 isn't a particularly well ventilated case, so it wont be helping. It's not bad, but not fantastic either (I have one). So for air cooling make sure you have a good flow in of fresh air.

What software are you testing in? and what's the idle temp at?

Check your version of Prime95. Anything after 26.6 will be taxing the AVX2 instructions, so I wouldn't be touching that, especially on Air.

Test with Intel XTU, first benchmark, then the Stability test. Alternatively, Asus Realbench, it gives a full system test and will show any system instability, not just CPU.

How much thermal paste are you using?

I think I may have had the heatsink on sideways? Would that make a difference? I am on about 28 degrees idle now at 5ghz? Ran XTU benchmark max temp was 60 running stability test now. But I also have both sides of the case off.

Big graphic cards? Taking the sides of the case off I'm betting = winner :)

I just checked the install manual it doesn't matter what orientation you set the heatsink and I have a msi 1080ti. Also re thermal paste I only used a rice drop

    I was using 27.9 build 1 of prime95. Using intel xta now. So I shouldn't use prime95?

Not with AVX2 instruction sets mate. Intel and the board manufacturers built in the AVX offset just for that very thing. So unless you are using the PC and it running AVX intensive workloads, testing like that isn't necessary. Version 26.6 is better, or alternatively OCCT.

You can test with Realbench, the longer it's stable, the better. LinX is tough but not necessary. Stable is all personal really. For me, if I can game without crashing, generally that's stable enough for me.

    Really depends what you want.

Realbench v2.43. Both XTU and Realbench are taxing enough for a good daily without going stupid IMO.

Running realbench now looks stable at 1.29 vcore. 5ghz. Maxing out at 68 degrees. Still running
