    Helping my wife cousin computer problem. The symptom is the computer will power ON for 1 second then off, no beep.

    1. I have tried another power supply and had the same issue.
    2. Remove memory and SSD and had the same issue
    3. There is no light on the motherboard that indicate power is fed. My understand is all motherboard make and model have light on the motherboard that indicate power is connected, I cannot see such light.

    I think the motherboard is dead and I would like a second opinion.

    most motherboards do not have a light. Does the cpu fan spin up?

    Pull every possible cable out including the CPU fan, same symptom.

    Any more suggestion? Otherwise I am just going to declare it dead!

    * Replace CMOS battery, a flat one can do some crazy stuff;
    * Leave the CPU fan in, some boards won't start if there's no CPU fan detected;
    * One stick of RAM, CPU, no drives, see if you can get to BIOS.

    I think I have troubleshoot enough. I have order a new CPU and Motherboard combination to replace the faulty one.

    The faulty part was low spec and not expensive so going to order todays equivalent.

    The cousin have left the computer unplugged from power and from my experience that is a dead sentence to electronic. All my remote tend to die if left with flat battery over an extensive period. Similar situation with a monitor.

    How old is the broken machine? Did you replace the battery? I've had 10 year old machines kick into life after being unplugged for years just by replacing it.

    Is the new combo compatible with the old RAM? Assuming you didn't order new RAM as your post didn't indicate it.

    No part was replaced. The cousin found the computer stop working after returning from a long trip.

    Is there motherboard that wont bootup when the battery is flat? I though a flat battery will only result in bios resetting to default, it should not prevent booting.

    My past experience when device without power for extensive time will cease to work, this happen to remote control and a monitor. I had 2 motherboard left in the garage for 2 years and 1 one of them stop working and the other one return error will booting but still load windows.

    I've had 2 Gigabyte boards go into boot loops, replaced the BIOS batteries and voila they came to life. What make and model is the board you're having issues with?

    Oh well, worth a shot for the price of a battery. Did you get compatible RAM and a GPU?

    The motherboard is a H270M-ITX, as for CPU it would be the same generation. The computer have been running the same components since day 1. No new parts was introduce.

    Feeling a bit guilty it have to go to the landfill.

    Consider looking for a used motherboard, CPUs rarely stop working and it may have some life left in it.

    It won't need to go to landfill.

    List it in the for sale section for $0 res and someone would take it.
    I would.
