DR recovery planning, pull a drive from a NAS after it is fully backed up. :)

Be sure to get muppet that designed it to peacock around the office first on how great the strategy is first, before executing a simulated disaster recover.

Nah these are supposed to be backups for another NAS that will be in either RAID 5 or 6. I just saw them configured in RAID 0 and had a bit of a shit take before calling the boss and asking wtf..

im pretty sure the regulars in this thread know that raid is a redundancy not a back up.

What If I'm running an Array of Raid 0 NAS units, in Raid 1.

It's turtles all the way down.

God damn it, flying out to Fiji tomorrow morning, been watching the weather for the last few days and there has been a freaken cyclone building around Fiji since I started watching the weather there. On the day we land is exactly when the cyclone will pass through Fiji (admittedly south of Fiji, but I think the wind will still be strong on the island)....

Better not wreck my holiday I swear to god I will lose my shit if it does.

Having said that here is an Elvis trigger: Fiji weather web page is iis powered :)

2 years ago for my birthday, my wife took me to Hamilton island. It rained/stormed THE ENTIRE TIME, and every single thing we had booked was cancelled.

We spent the entire week at the dive-in bar, shitfaced. Wasn't the best holiday, but it wasn't terrible either.

Unfortunately, Fiji tends to get bulldozed on a regular basis by cyclones etc so even if events are cancelled, chances are it's because the bar isn't there any more either :(

TALK ABOUT MISSING THE POINT...

Any activity that is not work is better than work. Cyclones last 24hrs max, coral coast will continue trading regardless, hell I even went to Fiji in 1987? just after a military coup, was still better than working.

Got a decade old QNAP TS412 that took a shit with a 3 disk RAID 5 array.
Says Array Not Active and qts system volume not found
Can I shove the disks into a new unit and just have it magically recover the array for me?

Did I have a backup? Fuck no I don't have a backup. Why the fuck would I have a backup? It's everyone else that should have one....

It's just MDADM on top of debian (well, gentoo but it is essentially debian in its implementation), there's nothing special in there, not as if those old units could do encryption.

I have me a 2011 era 659 Pro+ still running as my storage workhorse for now, which I need to migrate off of.
