It's funny, but equally sad/frustrating, that people fall for scams of that exact quality (and worse).

The dumbening is well and truly in progress (maybe almost complete, but then I've underestimated the stupidity of the general populace before).

That's why there's never anyone to answer the phone - all the office staff are down queued up at the ATM...

    duh.

Just having one is an example of public sector inefficiency.

I've likely mentioned it before, but I had a dumb coworker fall hook line and sinker for the nigerian scam, his only saving grace was he wasn't just dumb but poor as well, so when he couldn't drum up the money from friends and coworkers (who all told him it was a scam) he went to the bank for a loan, who obviously did not comply either... He's still sure that everyone was just jealous of him and cost him his millions.

The war is not over, most of our modern ideals on math and physics originated from there, then the smart people lost to the god people and you are left with what you have now.

Sure. The smarts were brute forced down to minorityhood, one way or another. As they tend to be in most (all?) cultures.

You can thank religion for the death of intelligence in that part of the world. Such a shame that what was one of the Earth's biggest centres of maths and science has disintegrated into what it is today.

Dogma and tribalism are the antithesis of progress.

The everpresent paradox of being human, an instinct- and biology- driven animal evolved to complex thought.

That's why we spend so much time with machines. Not because we love them or find them superior. But because they're logical, comprehensible relief from the complex often fraught interactions with our own freakish kind.

I like when the boss says "rainy day project" like we don't work in an air conditioned office.

A close (rural) family member is permanently, literally, one "I dare you" away from actually taking his computer outside and putting bullets through it.

Hence his past two computers are now safe in my junk pile. (no, no bullet holes)
