$oldJob hasn't done much more than tell staff "wash your hands and cough into your sleeves". Questions about increasing VPN capacity, scaling RDS, extra telepresence gear, enabling softphones etc for work from home were all pooh-poohed at the most recent all-IT meeting.

We work in the medical industry with reps going into theatre. Hospitals are yet to cancel elective surgery and still allow reps into theatres, other businesses need to take stock in that.

This is what media have given up by presenting to a market rather then reporting the news. Something that should be taken seriously is cast aside as 'fake news'.

My workplace has thus far implemented the following:

We've also mandated that all employees must test their WFH options in preparation for anything worse...

Very similar for my work freaky_beeky except they've asked us to bring our laptops home with us in case the situation rapidly changes and we need to work from home.

I've been unwell for a while now so I've enacted my own 'pandemic plan' (i.e. avoid sick people on the train) by WFH for over a week now

It stuns me that people don't test this. I mean, I've ranted long and hard about this across many posts and threads here, but the last thing I want to do on any given day is spend time in a corporate jail cell office. The day I get handed the company laptop is the day I ask how to use it from home, and test it that evening.

Pretty sure that's the patching policy of what I'm looking at right now.

Application white listing to annoy all the staff? Tick.

Browser, virtualisation platform and all web connected tools more than 3 months behind patch cycle with numerous CVEs. Tick.

    Fuck yeah, top effort lads.

For March my work has banned any attendance at 3rd party events (e.g. meetups, conferences, hackathons etc). Cancelled all first party events.
Blanket banned all non-business critical travel. Told everyone working in Tier 1 impacted countries to work from home. Anyone who has travelled recently to any of these countries before the ban is to self isolate for 14 days.

Even though we have all the necessary ingredients to do it.

Tell them the weekly pay run takes their hours from the VPN connect logs.

if you know anything about these systems they were not testing on production, they were merely using 3rd party mailout tool and messed up a merge field.

nuclear power plants blow up because people dont design systems with the user in mind. how do you think clowns send out SMS to people in Hawaii saying missiles are coming? Idiot programmers. not users.

The first was text book definition of idiot user. Password and URL written on a Post It note captured at the back of a TV broadcast.
