Carrot and stick. So many businesses neither punish those who don't follow process, nor reward those who do.

Worse, so many businesses do the opposite without realising it - process slows people down, so bypassing it increases efficiency and rewards the individual. Leadership doesn't care, so the problem perpetuates.

And it gets harder the higher you are up the food chain.

Process and security has to be pushed from the top down. If management keep thinking they're special and can break the rules, the whole org are counting the days until a successful ransomware attack.

management's opinion is "rules for thee but not for me".

I sat through three hours of meetings yesterday, roughly divided in half between projects anguishing their timelines wouldn't be met due to business limitations, and the other half cheerfully granting themselves exemptions because management wanted them done. meh, I've given up caring.

Who the fuck asks for people to follow process? You put actual workflows and gates in the process - that way mr. manager presbutan-approve.

Fuck meaningless tasks/busywork. Your job should be more fulfilling than taking an intray and putting it in an out tray.

The sad truth is - if people want to fuck you with a ransomware attack - chances are they are going to. Regardless of how well architected your environment is - you almost certainly still have printers, so you're fucked.

The real question is whether or not you can recovery quickly and effectively from it.
