Hahaha I was the same a few jobs back. Where I am now, typically I get asked to go and talk to the angrier parts of the business whenever sensitive/difficult things come up.

I wonder if there's a market for assertiveness training for IT people? :)

It really is a skill in itself

There's a great book called "Essentialism: The disciplined pursuit for less". I'd really recommend it, it's a book about focusing your efforts on what you're trying to achieve rather than caving to every person who asks for something. There's a few good chapters about the art and effects of saying no.

lol back after weeks on leave.

both laptops (company/client) shit themselves with password reset bugs/lockouts.

client "helpdesk" : ask for mythical id/number that no one has heard of..

    me "what is your name"
helpdesk " errr let me check with my manager"

you can imagine how the rest of the conversation went...

back for less than one day and ready to stab someone in the eye already...

Back to work, storage node has faulty RAM, RAID controller has failed and 100 angry douches calling/emailing every 2 seconds. Living the dream

It's some high end Dell gear, pretty sure it's a 200TB RAID, just been having no end of issues with this one node.

And just like that, I've flooded myself with back to back meetings until I go on holiday on the 29th....
