If the pinion is free spinning and actually loose I'd rough up the shaft a little (600-800 grit sandpaper) and then super glue the thing on, then it's there for good.
If it's not free spinning, and just slipping under power then I'd use a dab of hot glue which would be semi permanent but could be taken apart and upgraded/repaired easier later on.

I mean if you can get a good bond by all means solder it, as you'll only need the smallest amount.

Funny enough I found a member on here to 3d print 8 or 9 of them. I flicked him decent coin for his efforts. They where a little tight to press fit in but now there in there that's where they will stay for good.

Firewire i forgot to mention I was able to pick up my 80 bridge supports and my three inner circle borders from my mate that buys bulk from a guy in the UK.

So the might build might begin in the morning.... watch this space. Going to incorporate 4 bridges and try and build a few tunnels. But hard to plan on the space of a ping pong table

Spent the last two days rebuilding the track. Wasnt able to configure the track to use all 4 bridges for now. Still need to put on all the borders and shit for it. Does have a monaco tunnel section though that im happy with for now.

Ive got another arm chair racer order coming in hopefully tomorrow. I also have a pendle slot racing order coming in from the UK hopefully will the wheels i need to finish off my bellett car. I did order a 3d printed shapeways r8 chassis to put my scalextric r8 body on it and throw some slot.it gear in it.

Ill take more pics once i have all the borders and shit on it and maybe make some tweaks to it.

Well, it’s been nearly a year since I fired up my track - life and other hobbies have gotten in the way. But I went out and cleaned up the track last night, wiped down the rails with INOX MX3 - I found a little bit of surface rust on some track that wasn’t quite covered by the tarp, but otherwise it’s all in working order.

I fiddled with a few cars to make sure they were in working order, and I’m having my best mate over tonight for a racing session before he moves up to QLD.

Well looks like that track i built doesn't run well for all my slot.it cars. Dont know if the track is to long or the conductivity is not great for these slot.it cars cause im using some older bits of track. Im gonna tear it down and go back to a more basic track. I re chipped the cars i have and there working and i might work on a decent angle winder setup for the gtr nismo car i have.

    Watch this space...

Are you using INOX MX3 on the rails?

You can also make some booster cables by soldering speaker wire from the bottom of the track to another piece of track, putting one near the power base and the other on the further reaches of the track (make sure you take note of the polarity)

for my track I have 4 booster cables installed to all the further reaches of the track.

do you have enough room to have a second table? You might be able to get a more flowy track

Yeah i have innox mx3 and mx5 but last time i did that was around xmas time. I might just build a more basic track again and then sand the rails with very fine sandpaper or wet and dry. Then innox it and then leave it for a few hours to dry and then run it. I did sort out all the bits of track we had into boxes the other day. Only problem now is that all the old track bits are in with the new track bits. No don't have any more space for another table.

Im pushing dad to pour a slab in the backyard and put a huge shed out there then just bite the bullet and get a huge custom built mr trax track. But he said we have allot of other stuff we need to do to our house before we can even think about that.

I think i just need to go back to the drawing board and make sure the track is super clean and free of rust and all the joints are clicked in well then innox it then we will see what happens.

Would you go with innox mx3 or mx5?

    Cheers

Actually i might just go up to bunnings and buy one of those ozito dremmels or rotary tools. I can just use a sanding bit on it or wire wheel to get the rust off the track and then innox it. Or maybe i just try and find all the newer bits of track and only use those. Kinda wish i had left the track as it was now. But in saying that the slot.it cars never used to run well on lane 2 anyways. But they would run perfectly on lane 1. Maybe i do need those jumper things. Lols i have no idea what im doing but that's half the fun of figuring out this shit along the way.

    MX3 is the one.

    my process is:

Spray mx3 on a microfiber, apply to the rails only.

let it sit for 5mins before wiping down the track and rails with a warm damp cloth.

immediately dry with a dry cloth.

And unless there is rust already, NEVER use abrasives on the track - that will just lead to more rust.

As a rule; as soon as I have rusty track, I will swap it out for new track - if you keep it covered, keep it lubricated (INOX), keep it dry and never use abrasives - it won’t rust.

    Komm is spot on.

Soaking the rails in MX3 (and not wiping it off) is also great thing to do before you store the track. Means it doesn't go rusty in storage spots like in a shed.

If you don't already have a Rotary tool, don't buy one for slot car track.

I picked up a tonne of fully heavily rusted track from Queensland, and needed a Dremel to restore all that, but for a bit of light spots here and there, all it will do is power through any remaining nickel coating, and it's not as easy as you think it will be because a slight slip and you've gouged a bit out of the track itself.

If you've been storing all your track under water for the past 10 years (or in South East Queensland) and don't want to throw the whole lot out, a Dremel will be helpful, but otherwise, don't do it.

Also what I've found helpful when I started getting a lot of track is stickers like these:

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop...VlZpmAh17gAgLEAQYASABEgLm5_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Putting stickers like that on the bottom of every single bit of track that came into my possession helped me keep track of stuff I got new, stuff I got used, stuff that came in sets, stuff I restored etc etc when it was all in storage cupboards or on the work bench.
and I always know if a bit is likely to be a problem because it was used and I didn't fully restore it.

If you only have a large storage tub of track it might not be that helpful, but when you're up over 300 standard R2 curves and they all get stored in the same spot, it does help to know what the hell is happening.

From the looks of the pictures, your track doesn't seem that bad, even a soft scouring pad with mx3 would be fine for the actual surface, and booster cables are essential when your track has been remade a few times. Joints can be easily tightened up, or if you're a little lazy just slip some aluminium foil over a join you can be bothered fixing properly.

So this is what I ended up with guys. Ran all the cars and there running mostly fine. Ill innox it all in the morning and give it all a very good clean. Think ill have to chuck a ferrite man on the skyline as I just realized its the only slot.it car im running without one and it stutters along the track in sections where the others with ferrite man installed seems to be mostly ok. After a good clean ill border it all up and make it the best I can with what I have on hand.

That baby raptor sideways 17k motor is a beast. I threw it in an anglewinder setup with a 35 tooth on the nismo chassis and OH BOY its got some power. I think I will have to prep the tyres a little better to get some grip.

Thanks for all the help guys im taking it all on board. I might even goto the NSR championships here in WA later on this year but not to sure yet. I will purely be going to spectate and take heaps of vids and LEARN.

Looks like that 3d printed shapeways chassis for the r8 will be here in a few days so hopefully I can throw something together in that and put a few laps on it but this morning I broke the rear wing off it lols whoops. Shit happens. Having allot of fun with this hobby and its keeping me very busy and active and hopefully ill be losing weight as Ive already lost 6kg over the last week or so. Its all good...

So i spent most of yesterday wiring up two slot.it lighting kits. One was already in that slot.it r18 cw17 4wd car i got from my mate but he had done a piss poor job of soldering up the wires so i re did them. Then soldered up the other one. Blew up a few leds along the way lols. Went down to our electronic shop and got some super bright ones.

Installed the normal light kit into the nismo and with that baby raptor sideways 17k motor in an angle winder setup it drifts round the corners and is finally so fun to drive. I put the other lighting kit with the bigger blue front leds in my custom r18 4wd and it looks so good.

So i innox the rails (had to use the mx5 as dad had a winge and didn't want me using the rest of his mx3 and the mx5 i bought) this morning and left it for 5 mins. Then got a chux with warm water and whiped it all down. Then used a teatowel and whiped it all again. Then i used some thick toilet paper and gave it a good rub over with that. Then got the vaccumm out and went around the whole track to pick up anything sitting in the gaps of the rails.

We have to go out soonish so I'll border it up laters and have another run. All my cars are now running great. My pendle slot racing order may on a slight chance be here later today which means i can set up another car. If not it will be here tuesday as mondays a public holiday here. Wont be spending anymore money on slot cars for a while so i can save up to go see my mum later this year. So I'll have to enjoy what i have for now and make do.

I think im addicted gents. Is there twelve steps that i need to follow or something? ;)

Few pics of the track after i put the borders up and a few pics of the cars with the lights on in them. Track still needs a few tweaks but drives great.

Edit# No more connection issues on ether lane as well after i changed a few bits of the track and after the huge clean.

Ive been busy boys. Got my pendle order. Used the psc32 chassis for the bellett car as the escort chassis with the pendle wheels didn't give me enough ground clearance. Just have to come up with a way to mount the body to the chassis now and how to mount and wire up an f1 scalextric digital chip.

I got that shapeways r8 chassis and painted it green as well as the new internals. Had to dremel out the rear wheel wells to make more room for the bigger slot.it tyres. It is basically the stock pod setup off the nismo gtr slot.it car. Goes like a champ.

Need to put my slot car spending on hold now as i need to save up for a holiday to go see mum in October. Its all been allot of fun. Hopefully dad will put in an order for some stuff soon or we may even be doing a few days in Perth soon so we can get some stuff then.

    Thats a lot of blutak.

I haven't been as busy as you, but some basic maintenance and a new car.

    IMG_20220616_031843_264.jpg

Not the one posted previously, that one was Giancarlo Fisichella. This new one is Heikki Kovalainen, same year.

And I am now finally in a position to have a proper F1 race:

    IMG_20220616_033604_330.jpg

6 digital F1 cars, all different.

So much fun. So much expense. first 2 McLaren's were $60 for both with a whole digital set as well, this newest Renault pushed $70 which is quite a bit more than I was hoping for.

I'd like to get the second Ferrari and Honda too, but I'm not paying out the ass for any more F1 cars, I have enough for some good races now, so I'm happy with that.

There's also a few new cars coming this year that I should be saving for. I will probably downsize some of my 4WD belt driven rally cars because with the belts and full interiors and lights, there's not a lot of room to work with a digital chip.

Looks good. Dad and I love watching the F1 IRL but dad said he doesnt want to bother getting any of the F1 cars as they look way to fragile.

I think my next project will be converting my skyline to 4wd as it says in the specs of the car its possible.

Would love to hear more info about your 4wd belt driven cars as my slot.it audi r18 cw17 is a 4wd belt driven car and drives well except going around the super tight corners.

Good luck with the F1 race. Let us know how it goes.

So I decided to make a ford zephyr for my dad as it was his first car that he owned back in the day. I ordered the 3d printed body some time ago from pendle slot racing. Dad did start painting it but lost interest as his eyes aren't the best and mine arent much better. The chassis is a slot.it HRS with a 18k predator long can motor in and inline configuration. Added a few extra magnets up the front to make it hold to the track a bit better. Think the wheels I used are slot.it 15.3 rings a bell. Ally on the rear and plastic on the front. Fitted a slot.it digital SSD chip to make it work on our scalextric digital arc pro track. I used a green raw plug and just hot glued it onto the body. Found a little spring type thing in my kit and screwed it to the front post that was already there on the body. Added some heatshrink so it would not short out the chip. It hooks under the front axel.

I still need to paint it salmon pink and move the front wheels back slightly and hot glue the chip in. I will also glue in some wheel hub inserts that I have. I will do some other tweaks to it but its getting there.

Its no speed demon but hopefully dad will get a kick out of it and bring back allot of great memories he had driving in his original zephyr and hopefully more stories will come back from his memories that he can share with me.

Slot cars are bringing us closer together with every race we have. Its just taking all my money atm but its keeping me out of trouble lols whoops.

Let me know how you think I might be able to improve it.

    Thanks guys

Just posted this to the slot forum so I thought I would post it here as well cause I thought you guys would enjoy this. Ive been really busy with the slot car thing and done a fair bit since last time but Ill see if I can flick up some pics in the morning when I will have a little more time.

Looking good. And loving the dedication.
You mentioned that it's no speed demon but it doesn't have to be. It's a sentimental car and even if it's slow it's the time, care, effort, love and memories that will be important.

The ride height reminds me of those chase-cars. The ones fitted with suspension and made to drift. Those things are slow but I've never seen so much fun from something so slow. (Since you're really into it now you've probably seen them) I was thinking about getting a stack of them a few years back. But the shipping cost was astronomical.

I haven't done anything since I fixed that F1 car up. But thanks Vanne for the largest bump in likes I've ever had in one go. I'll have to post some more.
