Hi we've got a powerware 5125 UPS and it comes with a IEC 320 c20 plug, which isn't a standard plug. Wondering if someone can point me in the right direction on where to buy a converter. I'm not able to modify the plug or ups as it's for a business. Thanks

A matter of semantics perhaps, but "IEC 320 c20 plug" is standard, just not common.

The C20 is rated at 16 Amps, so no, there is no adapter to plug a 16A device into a 10A outlet.

You need a 20A outlet and a standard C19 cable.

Don't know where you got the idea that it's a non-standard plug, because it is. Any electrical wholesaler can get you a lead that goes from C20 to a 20A GPO plug.

I buy mine locally from Haymans all the time.

Interestingly, my APC Smart-UPS 3000XL has a C20 socket on the back, but comes with a 15A GPO cable.

Presumably because it draws more than 10A, but less than 15A.

Ok so i need a power point.. How much is involved with that. is it just a case of replacing a power point or is there more involved?

Talk to your local sparkie.... he'll be able to advise if the cabling in the walls is suitable, and the loading on what else is on the circuit.

Unless of course you prefer your house to burn to the ground.

If there is an unused wall aircon plug (those are usual 15/16 amps) you can likely use that with the proper cable. But check to see what the current draw is on your particular 5125 UPS

I had a dedicated 15A circuit put in for my UPS (which runs my whole rack). It was done when the house was built though, which made it somewhat easier.

I don't think you are allowed to mix 15A/10A GPO's on the one circuit anymore so you need to have a dedicated circuit installed.

If this is for a business, didn't you check this before purchasing the unit?

I didn't do the purchasing, my boss did. I'm just trying to help out. The funny thing is this ups is replacing a older one, exact same model, and it comes with a normal Australian plug! Which is why my boss brought it thinking there would be no issue. I've emailed the powerware asking to explain why this is so. Will update when I find out

It is 2200VA + Some more to charge the batteries. The extra probably pushes it over 2400VA.

just get a sparky to put a 20Amp plugtop on it and have them install a dedicated 20Amp circuit and outlet for you if needed.

2200VA ~ Just under 10A at 240V, but keep in mind that the same UPS in the 120V version will be pulling close to 20A, hence the C20. It's easier to design the enclosures and external connections the same for the different regions.

2.4kVa ups should put out about 8-9A ? assuming .8pF

so assume another few amps to run ups and charge batteries..
think it will pull close to 12A on full bickies (as in full load and recharge)
