the term 'skill group' is a little misleading, simple way to explain it as you really dont know how there formula works is that you have an MMR (you cannot see this magical number). The 'skill groups' ie gold 1 would be assigned to people whose MMR is in a certain range. You will lose or gain MMR when you lose or win a match, if your MMR drops out of the gold 1 range and into the silver master elite range you would derank to that 'skill group'. Competitive will use players MMR to match people together so you could have a range of ranks in one game as it will work on the average MMR of the team.

So in your question there is no way for someone to tell you that it all depends on how much MMR you lose per game and what your MMR was to start with. The reason i say the term skill group is misleading is because to much emphasis is placed on it, by that i mean you could be gold 1 and be playing against a gold 2, but there could be so little difference in your MMR that it makes no difference other than the little rank picture that is put against your name.

ah yup that explains it. TBH I don't think ill stick with cs:go competitive or just do it very occasionally I don't want to become obsessed and I can see skillgroup being addictive.

The other thing is I have 2 young kids soon to be 3, so is always chance of an interruption mid game so I don't want to let team down/ruin stats that way.

Grr after the 24 hr cool down it now wants me to win 2 more competitive games before ranking me.

edit: another good round, was accused of smurfing (how though by playing well?) and also cheating and been reported.. good to see nothing has changed.. done my 5 matches now so hopefully get skill rank soon.

You need 10 competitive wins before you see your rank

Ah k, it said it needed 5 I thought.

edit: missread it, done 5 need 5 more.

edit: finally after getting owned like 6 losses in a row I got ranked, silver 4. Happy with that, will play alot less now just wanted a skillgroup haha

I've started playing this competitive myself.
Got ranked silver 2. Now silver 3. Noob alert!
All good though as I think I'm a bit better than silver 3. Maybe 5 would be where I'm at.
It just sucks when you join a game and no one talks!

The awp always feels like slow motion compared to CSS.
    It's definitely a different game :(

I have to laugh at a lot of people that play this game though. Bag others out and then are absolute rubbish themselves.

Anyone watching IEM? Optics got raped, but was always going to be a no content. Faze v Astralis should be much more interesting

Yeah was great to watch some cs games in decent time zone for once. The atmosphere from the crowd was awesome as well.

As far as the games go, the SK game was always going to be easy with Optic still looking for their 5th member. The Faze v Astralis game was like a grand final though, hopefully the actual grand final is just as epic.
