Just upgraded to a 7800X3D on my AM5 setup and playing Squad my cpu/gpu usage is around the 50/100+% respectively!
ARMA Reforger my CPU is at 25% and the GPU over 100%.

    GPU is a RX9070XT.

Temps on the CPU midgame are in the low 60c so it's not thermal throttling.

Is there something wrong or do I have some settings to adjust.

PBO is on. Curve is negative 30 on all cores and stable.

What resolution are you playing at?
    Are you having frame issues?

1440P and no frame issues.. fps in the 170 - 190's

Was wondering if the percentages should be more balanced is all.

Does this mean there is a bottle neck in my system? I would have assumed that the 7800X3D paired with the 9070XT that there would not be a bottleneck. Or have i got it all wrong?

GPUs are pretty much usually the bottleneck unless playing 1080p at really high FPS. Its not a 5090.

My 7700 often shows very low utilisation whilst my 7900xtx *nearly equivalent to your gpu* is at 100%

    So nothing to worry about...excellent.

I do wonder about one thing though... I did not do a total Windows 10 reinstall when I went from AM4 to AM5... everything seems to be running fine with no hiccups, but should I do a fresh install anyhow? We have 1000/400 NBN so downloading fresh stuff isn't a problem..

give it a shot, you got nothing to lose. Just make sure you do your back ups

Had to do a total reinstall..full format.. was getting Blue Screen "System Thread Exception Not Handled" after a windows update and could not boot into Windows AT ALL.

Was thinking about a total reinstall anyhow.. my hand was forced.

BIOS was also locking up when I set PBO to on / Curve optimizer to Neg / all core / -30

Have now set BIOS to optimal defaults and so far so good.

on my 7950X3D I don't have any PBO set. I just have Enhancement to 90 Celsius. all stock other wise.

When you Overclock your cpu make sure you test it with Aida64 SHA3 test for stability.

CPU yawning at how easy it is to feed wireframes to the GPU.
GPU sweating a bit painting it as fast as the wireframes are coming.

    Frames well over 100.

    I'm not seeing the problem.

    Sounds like:
    • efficient game engine that uses minimal CPU
    • older engine which hits peak performance at (Yourcores / 2) for squad, and (yourcores/4) for reforger
    • some AMD/MS optimisation that keeps all threads to one die to minimise CCL latency (assuming your chip is 2x dies)
    • you might have the terrain/object detail set to low - making drawing the wireframe too easy
    • combination of the above
To maaaaassively oversimplify it, the CPU sends something like the below (with each surface having a number):

And the GPU, does a colour by number:

    That's the process.

If the first part is fast, the second part can still take relatively longer.

That was the best explanation I have ever seen. Well done

    Agreed.
Now when people pick on me for doing paint by numbers, i can just say im basically a GPU

    Thanks :)
