If humans in the 25th Century unearthed this thread they'd find herpes and bitcoin miners.

If you need a 3090 for work, I can rent you one for $25 per day.

Man - just saw that 3080 FE thread in FS forum going for $2.8k (still live too). That is insanity. I am not touching PC hardware anytime soon. Happy with my 2080 Ti that I got for $800 and my PS5. What a waste of money, honestly. That's such a huge amount of money for a graphics card, I mean come on.

I'm also putting off upgrading from a 1070ti even though the performance gains are significant, it's just too much money to sink into a single component. The other factor is the likely collapse of the 2nd hand value in ~12 months or so when we have new models out and hopefully production is more than sufficient to meet demand, so the current GPU 2nd hand prices will drop back to several hundred less than RRP. That's a pretty big depreciation hit to take on PC components!

I think the FE is still the only card that fits some ITX builds. ITX people have already given up on paying sensible money :)

The RTX 3080 FE had even more limited stock than what the AIBs put out and I gave up trying to get one back in 2020 as it was going to be virtually impossible, without paying scalper's pricing. The current pricing of that one in the FS forum, even with the EK WB is insane, though it's making wonder how much my own RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra could go for :Paranoid:

    Probably 2-2.2k with ease.

The FE is a special case as it is a rare card among rare cards, is very compact, and that particular one had a waterblock included too. I wanted one of those cards from the outset but they are just too damn limited.

Yup, it's tiny and pretty decent in terms of performance overall iirc. A bit of a step up from reference designed PCBs of the cheaper RTX 3080s like the MSI Ventus 3X units etc. I'm actually considering putting in some pre-orders for an RTX 3080 Ti too, but won't actually let go of my RTX 3080 until I have a replacement/upgrade in my hands. Too much of a risk with how difficult these things are to source right now at retail pricing.

This is happening even with lower spec cards right now, too much risk of letting them go at reasonable prices. I'm the same, I have multiple cards (nope, not mining) and I'm not prepared to let any go for what people will seemingly pay for them, because there is just nothing else out there for that money in case I have a need for a card again.

    This wanker wants $6,800 for a 3090.

I thought 2021 was supposed to be better than 2020. If this is what we can expect for the rest of the year, I might as well go back to 2019.

jus think. in a cuppla years i might be able to save up for a half clapped out ex mining card for RRP. nah. that's too optimistic. noway i expect to see rrp ever again while derpcoins are profeetable. 2020 was a good year for retiring from pc gaming

I haven't been this excited since the GFC. heady daze.
    2020-2007 = 13 . lucky 13. and uncharted territory. boom!

Honestly, it it wasn't for covid lockdowns + redundancy + ridiculous gpu prices I wouldn't have watched dozens of hours of youtube vids on repairing shit and decided "fuck it I can do that."

Like I said, it's not really profitable yet,
