The son wanted a custom hitbox for his fighting games.

He got a free-bee old V3 Hori from a mate so we decided to use the guts and mod the box.

First thing is to tear the V3 down .

The buttons in V3 had seen better days so they have been replaced with some new wiz bag sanwa's

The old ones are hard soldered to the pcb and removed , the new ones will be wired.

The next thing will be to make the new custom top panel to hold the new buttons.

The son did some magic in a program and printed off a pattern!

The holes are cut using a 30mm hole saw , ive left some of the protective paper after a coat of white then black the paper will be peeled away to allow for some back lighting around the buttons.,

The top casing is modded and the electronic are added back in.

For the LED lighting ive added a simple controller and run it off the usb 5v power input.

The base i lined with 3 rows of RGB leds

The new buttons are added and wired in and the top panel temp glued into place....

Nothing perm yet as we decided to give the layout a test run before committing to hard glue.

The end result is pretty cool.

It'd be super cool if it were able to light up the buttons that are used for that particular game/engine.

There are several LED driver boards available Kaimana were a popular one and Ultimarc PAC driver etc.
These will drive the buttons based on game and sequence etc.
My arcade thread is stalled no updates to it yet, but I have the info when I when I did my research there about led controllers compatibility etc.

Cheers Rev, most of the time he just leaves the LED's off he says they are more of a distraction.

Cheers Vanne tyvm :) It's just diff strokes for diff folks, he says this style is faster for him over the arcade stick style.
