Seriously, there's case-modding and then there's this. Case creation. :p
Oldnewby you are in a class of your own, a legend among modders.

I haven't the faintest idea where you are going with the theme or style, which in and of itself is very exciting to watch as this unfolds, but on design, quality, planning, aesthetics and craftsmanship.... I've never seen anything quite like this.

I cired when I read this... well not really but I know what you mean.
I'm part way through my first water cooling machine and just got the internals back from the powder coaters today.

Do you mind If I share your log with the people over at xtreme systems?

    That's awesome!

I really like the legs on it, makes it sort of look like a moon lander. It's good good to hear you're excited and I hope everything else goes according to plan (and looks the part too!)

    :D

    Hey that looks great!

Would it be possible to have the measurements of the back IO thing (motherboard slots and ect).

I am in the process of designing my cube and it would help greatly.

    Thanks
    Henry

On that subject... and sorry if that is slightly off topic... but I was thinking the other day that component manufacturers should publish Sketchup models of all the stuff they sell. How cool would it be to be able to pick up realistic models of all your parts to make sure they fit your mod before building it? :)

That would be quite handy. I would love that ( plus you can put together your dream machine)

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

@ Salad Fingers; If you mean a link, that's cool.

@Hennels; The way this is set up it would be useless to you.
The best way is to use an old backplate as a template, or you
could have a look at formfactors.org, they have everything.

I went out and bought a couple of sheets of 3mm MDF. Apart from this being a good
approximation of the sheet and angle I will be using, it was very cheap, fifteen bucks
    for two large sheets.

What follows is an attempt to get an overall look at some of the ideas I have.

    SOME CONSIDERATIONS.

    This is just a trial.
    It is not functional.
I Am just trying to get an overall look.
Nothing here may ever be used.
I'm trying to work as fast as possible so parts are just being ripped with the jigsaw
and the frayed edges sanded down, no other attempt at accuracy is being done.
The final product will be made in aluminium and perhaps plex (maybe not).
Attention to how many parts need to made.
Attention to the structural integrity of the assemblies.
Though I don't have a time limit, I don't want to spend the rest of my life making
this, so this also needs to be considered.

Starting off with the half frames that will be hinged to the backplate.

It would be nice to have some gentle curves.

I'm using a hot melt glue gun to join the pieces together quickly.

The lower part of the case will be wider than the top part. And the front not as wide as
    the back.

And I've been thinking about auto grilles (?) for the lower part.

Hmmm, I don't know about that grille. The sides are OK and top may need a gentle curve.
What do you think so far?

perhaps make the back so its flat, but the front having a curve, and then you could perhaps add a mesh to the back?

cant wait til its finished... bloody good work

I think the grill needs to vary in length. Take a look at the grill on the new Hyundai Genesis to see what I mean.
Keep up the great work.

Thanks everyone for your opinions and comments, much appreciated.
The idea of the tapered grille is a good one and I will make a trial of this.

I had a spare hour and a half today so there was an idea rolling around in my head that
needed to be trialed just to see how it would look. Now after making the first few pieces
I could see that it was going to be crap, but somehow I thought it would get better if I
kept going. It didn't, in fact it's quite surprising how different the reality is from the picture
I had in my mind, even if you imagine the parts made from alu or clear plex.
In consideration of those with weak stomachs I have only included links to pics. I just
want to let you know that I didn't have to show these pics, so easy on the abuse.
