    No you can't. It's a 24 month contract, not a 21 month contract.

You can usually upgrade at the 21 month mark though.

    wow, what awful advice.

anyone reading this do NOT take anything he says at face value.

if you quit your contract 3, 2 or 1 month out, you will still be charged a 'cancellation fee' of your remaining minimum spend for every month. for those like me and rice007 who were on the $39 3 blackberry cap, we would actually have been up for $79 per month for the months that we broke our cap (people on whirlpool out of contract have confirmed being charged $79 and losing all their monetary rebates bringing the bill back to $39 for their contract period).

i signed up to live connected just before the long weekend and was just ported out yesterday - when i called 3 care last month, they told me my contract expired on 24 april. so i'll no doubt get a bill for 4 days of my last 3 bill (assuming its pro-rata'd, which i certainly hope - if not, expect to see me fighting with 3 care tooth and nail not to pay it).

although optus isnt telstra, my god, the coverage and speeds are amazing, its like someone took the brick away from under the accelerator (and the lead-lined cape) :)

id give it a try - you'll have to try to resolve it with 3care first, then go to the TIO and lodge a complaint.

i was saying that is what happened for my dad on Vodafone, and COULD be the same for 3. i didn't say that IS what happens. being as they are now one company, I thought that MAYBE it could be the same. no need to go all out and saying that that is Awful advice

I will probably be told that for some reason this will also be aweful advice too.

IF you read the contract carefully, it say to sign up you much live in a 3 broadband zone, so check on their website, you may be able to get out, if you signed up instore.
I signed up online, and am struggeling to get out of my contract, due to that. :thumbdn:

no, i would say thats good advice (not that you would or should care what i say or think about anything you say on an internet forum) - you have given grounded information based in truth and fact.

simply saying "oh you can get out of your contract for free 3 months from it finishing" is terrible advice, and could leave people who rely on it with hundreds of dollars owing for breaking their contract when they thought they could do so with no penalty. to get out of your contract early with no penalty requires the provider allowing you to do so or you gaining a tribunal/court order saying you are allowed to - and nothing less.

    Rang up
to find out my contract end-date.... 4th June, not 4th May .
Phone convo took 35 minutes
But didn't really have to wait on hold much, certainly less than expected :)
Had difficulty understanding the staff
But, ended up understanding the staff, and generally being understood :)
Received very polite, and good, customer service :).
Got transferred to 3 Priority Care :)

Got told, for the first time, that I am in a black spot :(
And my GF's house is the middle of one :(
And where I go to TAFE is a blackspot :(
And Adelaide Uni is near a black spot :(

I got told to try a new simcard, but that it probably wouldn't help... as my network problems are very likely black-spot orientated

Got given '3 months free credit' :)
I think it is 'only' @ $29/month, but that's all I'll be paying that for May-June.. and it just means my June-July and July-August bill will cost $20. :)

She dug her hills in, and really didn't want me to cancel my $30 Blackberry thing, she kept going on about how it was free... and i mentioned that I didn't use a blackberry.... and she mentioned it was free, and I couldn't be bothered arguing anymore and said I'd ring up and cancel in June then., :(. I don't think she *understood* me though, as she then tried to connect me to a Blackberry specialist..... before I again explained that I didn't have a Blackberry.

She promised me super-awesome upgrade deals if I ring up in August... and seemed to say that these super-awesome-upgrade deals will be even better if I move onto the Vodafone network.

Overall, I'm fairly happy with the outcome. I don't expect Vodafail/3 to improve coverage in my suburb in the next 3 and a bit months... but, who knows? There is always a possibility, right?

That is 98% of my complaint with 3, shitty coverage where I want to use my phone..... and vodafail is improving the network....

    Hmm, thought about it...

But, I have '3 months free', and only 1 month left on my contract.

Might as well stay, for 3 months.

Nah they didnt say send the phone back, there was only about 6 months left on the contract tho so that might have had something to do with it.

Wife is happy now she has iPhone 4 on telstra now :D
