    voltus, mine took two weeks.
d0m000, I'd go for the 1500 and 8600 if it was a desktop replacement, but if you still have the desktop and don't plan to game on the lappy, the 1400 is a decent portable laptop for when you need a mobile PC.

Yay My Vostro is at "ship from factory" stage.

I wonder where the factory is and how long it takes from there?

    Agree with that....

I thought that i would be a Vista nay sayer however i think that it is fine for everything that i want to get done.

I haven't spent any time working out the security but i'll get that sorted.

Yeah i've kinda forgotten i'm using Vista now especially since I ran XP with the transformation pack. The only thing that shits me off about Vista is the stupid security shit (which can be turned off) and the silly secure file sharing system (which can be turned off).

My 1500 arrived yesterday. It has the grainy screen issue and quite bad back light bleed all the way along the bottom of the screen.
I must say I'm more than a little pissed with Dell because I made a point of requesting the unit be built with the LG/Phillips screen. If that was not going to be possible they should have come back to me before processing the order imho. I would have prefered to wait till the LG/Phillips screen was back in stock.
Anyhoo, a little more inconvenience but it will be worth it I think, it really is quite a nice laptop.

It's very hard to capture in a photo. Take a look back through this thread at whirlpool, it's quite well covered there.
If you view pages with a pale background, like these forums you will see the grainy appearance, some refer to it as patchy, blotchy, dirty or even sparkley.
Sit you laptop next to another LCD or laptop and view the same page on both, you will know if yours has a problem.
