Dell Wyse 7040 Thin

    these things
    Dell Wyse 7040 Thin Client Intel i5 6500TE
    do they work as a normal windows computer? looking for something as a cheap backup in case my box fails.
    sub $100
    theres also a Dell Optiplex 7040 Micro barebones i could put a i3-6100 ? & 8gb ram in it for cheep.

    I have a similar model running home assistant. Works fine as a lightweight server. Can’t comment on Windows specifically but I’d assume it would be fine if Linux is fine.

    Be careful of storage - some models come with eMMC. That may or may not matter depending on your use.

    so i went with Dell Optiplex 7040 Micro for $60
    im hoping a i3-6100 will work in it?
    $8
    2x4 sodimm $4
    psu $20 = under 100 lol

    update on the 7040- it works!
    ended up with a 6500T (app you need a T as its only 35 watt
    bought from cex webuy for $16 with their 5 year warranty lol
    i found 2x4 ddr4 hynix & samsung & a universal psu in my stuff
    so $76 & im done
