    Morning,

Is there any problem in using Demineralised Water in a WC loop as opposed to Distilled?

Some HydrX coolant will be added to the water.

    Rob.

I thought they were much the same, being non conductive so long as they don't get contaminated? So good for leaks?

its pre-contaminated..ie its hit air already, even before you open the bottle :)

Destilled water is evaporated and then condensed.

Demineralised water is passed through a series of resins which remove charged ions, and then a membrane which filters out pretty much everything. It's small enough to filter out bacteria, making it sterile.

The only difference in practical terms is if you are using the water for drinking, in which case the distilled water is better because the evaporation process will remove and/or destroy virus particles. The membranes used for demineralised water are not fine enough to filter out viruses.

Not a good idea to drink either on a regular basis, is it? We need those minerals. :Paranoid:

    Cheers

I just run a 99% Glycole mix, i think its less conductive then water incase the worst happens. I dont know if its better or worse than water tho.

I don't. I think he's right. Particularly, fasting using distilled water can be dangerous because of the rapid loss of electrolytes. The same is true, to a lesser extent if consumed when not fasting. The electrolyte balance in your body is very important to maintaining correct electrical signals, including a little thing like the 4 chambers of your heart.

Demineralised water is for batteries not watercooling.

Demineralized water is fine for water cooling and so is distilled water. Solution should be 10% corrosion inhibitor to water. Make the solution a near full strength corrosion inhibitor to water ratio and you will gum up most of your fine bits including pumps. The result of an overly strong mixture is poor heat carrying capacity and higher system temps.

    Thermally, it's worse.

I don't think that's too much of a worry. It's pretty darn rare that you'll get sick from drinking ordinary tap water. DI or DM water isn't handled and packaged in sterile conditions, anyway, so it's not sterile.

I agree. Everyone's done this prac in biology. Having no solutes, it has a high osmotic pressure and gets sucked into your cells. Probably cause neurons to depolarize slightly. Theoretically it can dilute your blood. But to be honest, all the minerals we need are everywhere. I mean eat anything with distilled water, and you've solved the problem.
Besides, why drink it? Its expensive to make, and has no benefits.

You wont need to add anti-corrosion solution to distilled water as it is not anionic.
