Tip: Check for a shopping icon on the left-hand side of the conversation window.

Lots of randoms sell stuff without actually offering a trading option in the conversation.

Also, get thievery nice and high and steal the good stuff.

Merchants in towns will have scrolls as you level up to the right tier. ;) The good thing is merchants tend to have fixed patterns of stock, or specific class/elemental magic scrolls so u can go back and check with them once you've the way point

If you have good standing with random npcs, most will trade their stock with you, sourcerors in particular will have scrolls and magic books

Or you can level up steal. Low chance though.

    Or use cheat engine...

Finished it after 45 hours. Such an amazing game but so many side quests not complete! :(

The last chapter was particularly infuriating because
i skipped someone or murdered someone and i had no way to continue the main story except to cheese the mechanic to get past the area.

Thanks guys, but my main issue was described in my original post. My mage is a pyro mage that doesn't have any points in air magic, so I can't learn the spell. I have the book, but I don't want to sacrifice 2 points in pyro just to get 1 skill...however it is an awesome skill to use in battle.

I use it to bring down enemy archers or mages from high places, drop enemies on hazardous surfaces and teleport my archer to high places.

It's worth it, 2 points in Aero give you Netherswap and Teleport. Find a couple of pieces of Jewellery that give you Aero or Pyro, and you've made those stats right back.

Don't over-specialise plus you can completely re-do all your specs after the first area is complete.

I never finished the first game, so I have gone back to play through it before picking this one up. If the 2nd game is half as good as the first, then it'll be awesome.

The amount of content just by itself is also amazing, just the amount of work that has gone into this game is nothing short of amazing.

200+ hours for 1st play through, don't get many of them.

I hit a brick wall once I got to the final location. Too many threads to follow to keep interested.

Gotta not let Perfect be the enemy of Fun.

Fail some persuasion check, and have to slaughter an entire camp of tree elves... So be it.
Accidentally stab someone, making a whole town mad at you. Fight on.

Yeah I agree, the way to play this is to live with your consequences. No save cheating (Unless you get wreckeddddd which happens)

Just closing up Act 2 atm.... Was struggling for a bit with the difficulty jump half way through, got a few upgrades then creamed the rest.

The attention to detail is unreal.

It's not that, I've clocked more RPG time than most I would suspect and know how to enjoy them, it just lost cohesion.

We're starting to see a bit of that now. I think some story triggers were missed... We saved the blind elf girls friend in the Fort Joy, but all her elf-friends in reapers coast won't talk to us, and wanted to fight us (bad idea).

I'm not even sure what the 'main quest' is at this point :).

I'm up to that bit too. I think you've got to do the quest "A Trial For All Seasons" before they will talk to you. It's just close by where the statues are.

I wonder if I can use spirit vision to talk to their ghosts :)...

    I'm not going back.

Restarted the game this weekend for the umpteenth time. I was so close to the end when the "definitive edition" came out, so I shelved it for a few weeks. It's a great game with great music.

I haven’t done much of it tbh. Some of the quest objectives re incredibly hard to find, and we keep managing to kill people we shouldn’t. (Griff).
