I thought I would share this one due to being so effective and easy to build.

I got all the bits and pieces from my local Bunnings store.

    What I used:
    • Pine board - 240x19mm @ 1.8M (I used a damaged board, I got it cheaper at $6 and cut off the damaged part. It never hurts to ask for a discount!)
    • 4x Furniture legs. (They're plastic but very effective, only $3.55 each and very easy to paint if you want to change the colour.)
    • 2x Pine rounded edging - 30x8mm @ 2.4M - $3.86 each. (more than enough to cover any mis cuts.)

Realistically if you wanted a really basic stand you wouldn't need the pine edging. I opted to do this not only to hide the base of the furniture legs but to make it look nicer as well.
With the above bits the total comes to $27.90.

And the common stuff which you might already have:
    • Screws, glue, putty, varnish, sandpaper, ect.

    Now it's time for pictures.

As simple as it gets. No varnish or edging. I ended up cutting this down a little bit because it was too wide. I only wanted my monitors to just be on the mount. Notice the base of the furniture legs.

Here I've applied the pine edging. Simple miter cut with some glue, then filled the gaps with putty. Just about to sand it down.

First coat of varnish. The last coat I did was ruined due to a fly landing on it. The ruined part is now covered by my monitor. :)

Before. The reason I made this is I was getting neck pains always staring 'down' at my monitors.

After. Much easier to use my computer. I also have the added benefit of extra desk space.

Not only easy but extremely fun to make.

If it is any consolation to you, it fucked the fly's day up a lot worse than it did yours...

This is a lot better than my 2x2 ipad boxes stacked on top of eachother at work.

I really need a shelf like this.

    Looks good!

    Looks good mate.

I got my old man to make one out of jarrah for me. with my 27" imac and my u2410 sitting on it. suits my table very well, and i have room to shove my keyboard as well as a heap of usb hubs, hdds, etc under it.

    That's excellent, looks great

I don't even bother with a monitor stand....I have a 30" monitor and desk level seems to be the right height anyways.

Any rubber feet on the four legs?

Only did the taping to get rid of the jagged edges :thumbup:
They're attached with staples lol. Good ol' 8mm staples though, so they aren't moving any time soon :)
After seeing the OP's though... I'm gonna have to give mine a touching up!

Mine is just a piece of 1800x295 Laminex chipboard with legs. Helps that my desk is exactly 1800 too.

I was inspired by this idea so I went and built my own. Total cost $11.75

I cut the notch out so that I could have more room for using the keyboard, I was going to give it a coat of varnish but I'm not sure what my next proper desk will look like so for now I'll leave it as is and decide later

i made my first one back in 2001 :D
got my flatmate who was a chippy to knock it up and i covered it with black contact :leet:
but it was only wide enough for my old IBM kb so had to be re purposed as a rad stand when i got the g15.

u can still see the cup hook in the top right corner that held the mouse cable
i still have it 11 years later and still use it, it is currently my hdd and psu shelf
so a quick trip to bunnings and scavenge a few shelves off a desk and i made a new pair
