He's certainly better than some, he does seem to grasp just how difficult the problem we face is to solve.

Hey guys can anyone recommend me a charge controller to suit a 12V system with a max PV open circuit voltage greater than 38V? Cheers

Only need 10A rating and non mppt is fine

Getting close to building one from scratch

Good question, forgot to mention it. As little as possible. Probably not more than $200. I don't need something high end, just something cheap, pwm is fine, any of the budget junk that shows up on a Google for solar controller is fine, with the exception of needing that high PVo voltage support, which none of them seem to have

I'm restricted to 12V system, as this is for my 4WD

I did buy one from banggood for $17 with an advertised 50V PVo but it isn't 50V at all the thing released the magic smoke immediately

Thanks again for the recommendation. For the money this feels like incredibly good quality, actually looks to be decently waterproof, is very compact, and better yet - it works. Cheers

Are you mounting it in the engine bay?

Nah just sitting it there on top of the fuse box while it's parked up. Meanwhile I'm building a storage setup at the rear, which includes relocating aux batt to the back of the car. I figure the solar charger can go at the back, but to be honest I'm not sure what the plan is atm, I could just connect the solar straight to the aux batt, but I wouldn't mind if it would maintain the main battery, too. Got to figure out how that would work alongside the DC-DC charger I've got planned to go in.

Does the DC-DC charger do start/house battery segregation as well?

for that price I think I'd go a lithium wall battery.

    Hey guys,

Recently passed up some free panels since we're renting but it got me thinking.. Is there a controller available that will balance a load so it's running from solar then backup/supplement from mains AC when the sun is down or not generating enough? I've got 2 HP servers and a disk shelf chewing about 450w all day long in a detached rumpus room that I'd love to cut down.

    Cheers.
