    Another year another mod !

A Huge thanks to James and the guys over @ MWAVE for jumping on board with Some really cool hardware for the project. Mwave is a local supplier in sydney and i had the pleasure of dealing with them on the last build.

    MWAVE
    GIGABYTE Z390 AORUS ELITE
    INTEL I7-9700K
    GIGABYTE GEFORCE RTX 2060 SUPER
    TEAM FORCE VULCAN 16GB 3200
    INTEL 660P 512GB M.2
    4 X SAMSUNG SSD'S

Last but not least the star of the show :D

    DEEPCOOL ASSASSIN III COOLER

    Again thanks MWAVE

I decided i want a case that is more "AIR" oriented and really like the new wave of open air design cases. Cougar Conquer, Antec Torque, Zeaginal ZC-01 etc

I call them "Hyper" Cases, Much like Hyper Cars. I just find them so impractical but soo damm sexy to look at :)

Still wanting to Air Cool Cause it's "still cool to air cool " right ! But not wanting to have to run intake and exhaust fans. So maximising air flow will be the highest priority next to looks :D

The Design is a straight up rip off from the Zeaginal ZC-11 but with a few minor tweaks and extras. I did try to buy one of these units but at over 400au delivered i'll just make my own :)

The first cut bit to get bent was the base of the case... at just under 600mm it's the biggest bit of plex ive bent to date.

    Success :D

A qik light sand, no fancy rgb for this one going for the mono tone grey look.

Every base of a case must have a top! This took a bit more work,

i wanted a certain look so bending gluing and some bracing was done for this.

It's a bit more toned down the original but still looks agressive.

The idea is that both sections align perfect with the other...

What goes in the middle comes next :D

The spine or main section of the case mod will be some 8mm white plex. This stuff is pretty rigid and with some extra bracing and shape should be more than enuf to hold it's own for strength.

To connect the dots i'm using simple brooker rod, or threaded bar... the plan was to just use some cheap thin M8 for the initial stuff then move onto some thicker
Stainless steel rods later.... but after a test fit up im thinking this will good enuf.

The spine can be sat in the base and connected using the rod and nuts... centring is easy :)

Next was to make a motherboard tray, this will sit offset to the spine and thanks to the threaded rod can be easily adjusted to suit the setup inside.

Some extra rods are added to help support.

Adding the top section shows pretty much the whole look for the case. There's still a long way to go and i'm working against the clock to get it finished in time.

Every day throws a new idea into the mix but with this basic and simple design im sure i can quickly build another :)

Not a hug update, just worked on making more tubes and a few finishing off touches.

I'm using these cool little clear perspex screw to mount the SSD's on the back of the MB tray.

It's a bit of a pain if i wanna change a ssd down the track but for the sake of a clean back panel i'm willing to take the trade off.

Finished off the the GPU bracket with a panel to hide the riser cable, will also work as a card support.

Last but not least ive added some pattern panel to the inside floor,

Added a cut out panel for the top and did some front panel work.

This is pretty much how the bulk of the next few posts is going to look, just a whole lotta sanding , primer, high filler and more sanding.

Only a couple of hours into it and i know i'm in for the long haul..... actually taking me back to the good o'l Bondo days of HP-1,2,3,4,5 AND 6!!!!!

Cause i'm making this from heat bent plex and bent plex warps. It's going to take a bucket load of work to make this top section look pro.

As seen in the above post the front looks pretty ruff. The tabs sections that drop down the sides are only there for bracing while i sand and will be cut away... but for now they stop the sides from flexing in.

I'll smash the bulk of the work with some 120 grit dry them move up to some 600 then over to 400 wet and dry and so on.

To make sure it's 100% flat im using an extreme large block and just like the old days i'll work to my edge not over and around them!

This cuts one clean flat surface at the exact angle.

The side due to the massive warping will take a lot lot more. But as you can see the large block is already cutting a nice lines.

To help see the line better i add some primer paint, this also shows the lows as the sand paper misses these spots.

Todays little effort was about 2 lines! and not the ones that make me happy...

After a bit more of a sand and now some black shadow you can see that the left side has a small but very noticeable bow , creating a low spot. No amount of sanding is ganna fix this....The right side is worse as the whole side is warped and low.

As mentioned before the panels are heat bent and this gives a rounded edge and for the look i want, i'm after a sharp edge.

Ive started with the right side, the larger area to work on.

The flat edge of the ruler shows the gap. This is low and will need to be filled.

A quick pass with some light weight bondo and a ruff sand and the magic line is starting to show.

Still a few spots to work on but theres a proper shard line now.

Another layer of bondo and light sand and pretty much done for this side. A sharp clean straight line.

    Left side tomorrow :)

can you use a heat gun and push the back side of the piece to bring out the low area
i can appreciate the time & effort you put into the builds:)

Today's effort was working on the top vent modules.

I wanted a design that was modular would actually breath and work with the rest of theme.

It started with 2 quick outs.

A bunch of strips are cut

    Some glue and mounting brackets.

    Chuck on some paint

Tap some hold and mount it in.

I may add some smaller filters at some stage.

I may change the colour to silver, but will wait and see how the black contrasts with the gunmetal grey of the case.

    Cheers Richie tyvm mate

Small update as we head into the long Easter weekend.

Decided to add some active cooling, where i'll be heading heat is going to be a factor. I can always remove if i decide to try passive again.

Adding a simple bracket to hold the 2 x 140 fans.

Braces are added holes drilled and fans added for a test fit.

I wasn't exactly happy with the mount system ! as the saying go's... it's a modder's prerogative to change their mind :D I wanted a duct system for the fans... more for looks than anything practical. This will also help to fill some of the void at the front of the case.

trying to keep the sharp angles and a style that works in with the rest of the theme.

The left side is shaped a little different to help with a bit of flow to the psu.

Still not finished need to add in 2 more sections to the psu side.

The unit will slide mount then secure with a clip system or screws.

Today was back to the work of sanding paint and putty...... All the time consuming stuff that's not a lotta fun.

First up was to finish off the PSU side of the fan duct a bit more shaping and more sanding....

Ruff as guts for now but done. This should help get a little air to the psu.

Add some contours to both sides then off for some primer....

It ain't pretty but have faith :D

Faith comes in the form of putty :D

While i was in the mood to putty i thought i put some love into the roof !

    Look at that line :naughty:

Few spots that spray putty just wont fill.... so putty time.
