Yup, its a PUBLIC holiday, not a religious one (well, technically its both - only if your religious though).

I ate meat - I feel that I don't have to answer to anyone for doing so. If someone doesn't wanna eat meat because their religion disallows it then that is entirely their choice! Just like its my choice to eat meat on a day where religious people choose not to.

Or we could just take advantage of your religious practices, don't see what's stopping us?

had chicken for lunch and just finished roast beef for dinner.

this wasn't a deliberate act of rebellion, just eating. I'm an atheist and have little time for pagan nonsense. :)

I'll say it again - there is no steadfast Catholic rule not to eat meat - it is merely a widely accepted symbol/gesure of Christ's sacrifice.

If someone is stupidly pushing the point, they should gain a better grasp of the religion they supposedly believe in. Maybe if they made a real sacrifice that took more than a moments effort...

It does make me laugh that some people seem to be making a point of eating meat today. Find something useful to rebel against.

I forgot about it this morning on the way back from Fiji on the plane and I ate the sausage that came with breakfast. Actually it's arguable there was actually any "meat" in that sausage...

Told the Ms's and she wasn't too happy!

Hanging for tomorrow and a nice freshly cooked big mac.

At penalty rates of 2.5, hell yeah!

But in a serious response to your post, sure, I think a secular holiday in place of Good Friday is a great idea.
