The venerable Dick Smith Electronics 2260 soldering station.

As I understand it, these are a bit like grandpa's axe - been around for donkeys years in one form or the other. My uncle has two that both need new handles!

I think these handles are beyond saving/repairing - the threads holding the hotend & circuit board together cracked off years ago - and he tried aralditing them together :wired: - but hopefully someone knows a secret location where one can purchase compatible replacements?

Yes, I know DSE stopped being a hobbyist electronics store in about 1999 and went under entirely in 2015 before being zombified by Mr Kogan. So it's a long shot I guess.

FWIW, T2260 looks the same as Altronics T2380 here:

    https://forums.overclockers.com.au/posts/17645988/

My T2380 stopped heating, and problem seemed to be unobtanium element in handle

I ended up buying a new handle assembly (details at bottom of EEVBLOG linked from OCAU above) for a Xytronics LF-1000, of which T2380 is a rebadge

That was back in ~2017 and T2380's still working

Can you include some pics of the damaged threaded mounts? Might be a suitable ghetto fix we can advise on :D

Takes the same tips as my Yihua 898D, which is the same as a Hakko - think the Yihua is a Hakko style copy
Plastic threaded section on the soldering iron gave way so I ordered a new replacement iron on eBay for $20

(also bought myself a Hakko FX888D for Christmas, well new years by the time I get it)

I'm assuming they're injection moulded out of a heat resistant plastic like ABS. Probably not ASA given their age.
Was hoping a bit of acetone welding might do the trick, but the ancient araldite gobbed all over the place seems to have buggered that option.

It seems to roughly be a pre T-12 Hakko style hand piece.

Also I checked my T-2000's but they're all fitted with Weller or Weller style ones from the era, so there must have been some changes in that time between them.

Shoot, I forgot all about this. Too busy making stuff to make posts.

Too many years have elapsed, spare parts pretty much don't exist outside of a place in Poland (I think it's Poland) that doesn't ship internationally and doesn't respond to emails. OEM manufacturer has moved onto newer things in the last 20 years. I was unwilling to spend surprisingly big bikkies on a maybe compatible handle that may or may not get hot and/or explode into flames.

Screw it, I've got a 3D printer that can do polycarbonate and half a clue on how to drive Fusion 360. The threads were the hardest part to get right. Atta guess 20yo injection moulded in ABS with zero shrinkage compensation applied. They were like M13.45 x1. As I'm redesigning it, I beefed up the internal walls wherever I could around the heaterboard components and chamfered the crap out of everything in sight.
Seems to have worked pretty well.
