    Hey guys first post, I thought I would share with you my latest build. I'll list all the specs tonight. Feel free to ask any questions, I'll add descriptions to all the pics as soon as I get a chance.

    Still have a lot to build. Will be using an external sas card to external hard drives bays. I'll keep updating as I build now.

    I made the rack out of a product called unistrut which is a universal construction system. Pretty much a huge set of mechano. I sprayed it in a 2pac expoy paint. Sorry for the lack of pics I got alittle carried away that weekend.

    How much did the unistrut set you back? Is it in standard sizes or did you need to do a bit of cutting and fiddling to put it together?

    Ahh unistrut is quite an expensive product to buy in small amounts. Im not sure on the price per length. Its is a magnificent modular bolt together and so diverse. Everything you see painted in grey is all welded together everything internally bolts in and is all adjustable.

    Here is a couple of pics of the stuff I used. The hardest part is getting the threaded server rails. Which I have 8 lengths left over which i'm happy to sell.

    When it came time to build my rack case I wanted something this size and easy to be able to bolt things in and out and was not to keen on sliders as its a pain to pull heavy 4ru cases out. I can work on the server with the lid off with plenty of room at standing height. I also wanted it tall enough to put switches and external sas boxes which I'm building atm. Not to mention it's easy to move around.

    Im happy to dig up more information about how I've used unistrut if anyone is interested in doing what I've done.

    Specs on server so far,

    *S5000pal Intel Dual Xeon Board
    * 2x Intel Xeon 5130 Woodcrest - 2.0Ghz dual core, 4MB L2 cache, 1333mhz
    FSB - Socket 771
    * Dynatron Heatsink's
    * 2xCM72FB1024-667 PC2-5300 1GB 240pin FBDIMM

    *Samsung SH-S223C SATA DVD Coverted to usb with external power. (makes setting up raid alot easy.

    * 550W "Antec" TruePower ATX Power Supply, 120mm fan
    * ANTEC 4U22ATX 4U RACKMOUNT CASE

    Hard drives

    *2x 200gig Seagates in Raid 0 Configuration for operating system (windows server 2008)

    *4x 1tb's in raid 10 configuration.

    These hard drives are not for media, they are only for drivers, operating systems, software .

    Im starting to build the media side of things now which will be a sas expanded setup with a separate case and power supply.

    Still getting my head around sas cards.
