    Hi,

I assume that if I buy a USB3 external drive and plug it in to a legacy port (USB2 or even 1.1) then it will function completely normally sans a loss in speed?

I just wanted to double check. I assume they'd be insane to make it legacy incompatible.

    Cheers,
    Daniel

yeah usb3 drives are backwards compatible so it will just default to whatever speed your ports run at aka 2.0 1.1 or 1

    Yes they do....

    But will run at 40MB/s

If you dont have USB3.0 drivers installed your unit will run at 40MB/s
