EA Battlefield 6 (Battlefield 2042)

    That's what hardcore mode is for these days. I think 4 had that option?

    I never like the hardcore implementation. I would prefer if they just removed the auto follow enemy marker for being spotted so at least your team could properly deal with campers, snipers etc but still allow enemies to reposition safely.

    Another leak shows they can be disabled if you don't like them.

    Latest gameplay trailers look like this is so far removed from what Battlefield is. Grapple hooks, I mean, yeah they are always a fun mechanic but I really don't believe they belong in BF. I guess there's a much larger audience to attract other than us late 30 somethings who grew up with BF, we either have to suck it up or go play ARMA or something lol

    Pretty sure I remember grapple hooks in BF, from Special Forces addon for BF2 maybe?

    Interesting. I think I remember getting that expansion late in the game but didn't actually really have opportunity to play it.

    Is it just me or is this a big step down visually to BF1/BFV?

    Looks about the same to me comparing it with some BF1/V videos.

    The locations they picked aren't very impressive visually. Concrete building & industrial yard, a park area you can't see much of the park or the buildings because there's concrete road & walls in the way, an indoor area which is very flat & dull, the road way with the tank going by kicks up a lot of dust.

    The last bit is the most impressive for me, the vehicles zooming around, sparks flying, fog/dust and rain effects.

    As a multiplayer game I'd be wary of it being too graphically demanding, I remember playing Crysis Wars and it's graphics heaviness causing problems trying to play it on systems that weren't beefy (for the time). The test leaks when the player is on the hills around the rocket launch site do look good to me. I suspect in-game when you get up high and can overlook the whole map it'll be extremely impressive when you're in a full server with 128 players going at it. The Korean & Spaceship maps I think will be the best to look at, and then there will be remastered Arica Harbor & Caspian Border should look great.

    I pre-ordered it today, I finally got a smallish refund for an old steam game that no longer works, needed to get an elevated support ticket for it to whack them with the 'Australian consumer law doesn't have a time limit on refunds' to get it. Combine that with some small card sale money and $100 steam card I got as a Christmas gift last year, I only needed to pay $6.50 for the gold edition with the season passes. Nothing else except Far Cry 6 interests me (that I've heard of at least) and that's a Uplay exclusive so I can't get that on Steam.

    For me in those bland areas it was a lack of ambient occlusion/impressive shadows and lighting

    This scene is good example.. could pass as a ps3 game.. plenty of meh. I guess we need to wait till final release to judge.

    Yeah it looks awful, as does those bs Specialists, and bs kill animation

    Think the Vid encoining is just really poor for some reason is making it look particuarly bad. The janky animations though.. not sure.

    Yeah where is the 4k 60fps videos.. maybe its on purpose to hide the lack of polish..

    The kill animations are very CoD...

    The YT looks like it might have been taken from Twitter, maybe upscaled from 720p to 1080p by Gamespot before they uploaded it onto youtube. That can't have helped things.

    There's a direct download link for a regular 1080p video, about 2.1gb. Downloaded it pretty quickly did some comparisons and the proper version is clearly sharper compared to the more blurry youtube/twitter version. The park area with the yellow/gold roofing pops a lot more, the night scene with the sniper is more clear despite being dark. It doesn't quite fix everything like that dull interior and the lack of shadow on the sentry which seems to be a design choice, because the robot dog has one in other videos.

    Could also be that things aren't ready yet, remember Cyberpunk first launched with those broken trees/shrubs and it needed Nvidia to release their driver first. Could be something like that. I'll probably disable most of that crap anyway to get a smooth 160 at my big resolution.

    Kill animations, well that's the new era we're in now since it gives people the ability to see their skins, plus the guy running BF now is apparently moved over from Call of Duty so I can see that influence. Doesn't really bother me though on it's own.
