Does look good, fingers crossed it's enough to save the mess that is the normal mode.
Goes into alot more details on what u can do with portal
alright they've suckered me in with portal
It does look cool, but I still recon it will die pretty quickly.
I think all promoted "game x vs game y" modes will die quick, but the modes that are just the old games with 128 players will be popular.
My preferred mode would be something like 128 player Battlefield 3 with the usual US vs Russia sides, with jets disabled, add in some of the weapons from 1942 as well.
The servers will die quickly.. they are going to spin up a dedicated server for everyone who wants one for portal, they only close it if no players are in it.. will literally at launch be millions of people trying and I can almost guarantee there will be issues.
Portal looks incredible. Some pretty insane freedom from DICE there.
I agree though - the servers switching off with no human players will be annoying. Requires someone to start a server every time they want a specific game mode. However - free servers is pretty awesome. Maybe there will be a pay model where you can pay and keep a server up 24/7.
I don't think this game mode will die. I feel there will be some classic game modes that will draw in players all the time. I feel BF3 & BFBC2 mixed on all maps with Rush and Conquest will have my attention for a good long time. Particularly when XP carries across to the main game to help unlocks and ranks. Then you throw in Hazard Zone that looks like a cool mode as well, for something different.
I am hopeful this could be a pretty impressive game package. Let's hope performance and issues are resolved come release. I must admit, the changes they have already implemented from the beta caught me by surprise. The benefit of so many studios working on the game - they can fix/add things quickly.
Have to remember that EA/DICE cannot afford for this to flop. This is the biggest FPS launch EA has done for a little while and into the near future. They need sales and to retain players. Let's hope that resonates with the game.
Hopefully there will be some well manned BC2/BF3 maps in regular conquest/rush modes without over the top zany shit. If you can turn off Specialists then even better. Their new trailers are still focusing on hyper paced gameplay, and the "what a time to be alive" trailer was on point for their marketing department lately. We're in warzones, not running around in a tulip field ffs.
Anyway still a miss for me at launch. Will see what kind of steam Portal picks up and how much of a community it keeps. Just remake BC2 you cowards.
Pretty much my thoughts. As a BF fan I've felt really disappointed the last few entries and wasn't really interested in this one until this Portal thingo popped up has made me excited again, but will wait it out 6 months or so.
If this brings back my BF memories... Good times here I come.
Better not be a let down.
128 metro conquest 24-7
cheapest place for preorder atm for gold edition?
Get Xbox games pass "1st 3mth subscription for $1" then try it for 10hrs... is the cheapest. Then buy whatever edition if it's worthy.
10 hours isn't a lot of time even for $1.
I wouldn't bother with gold edition, $30 for one week of play (during the most likely time for server failures, massive bugs and crashes) and very minor ongoing content that you could buy later anyway isn't a great deal to me.
Edit - It's even cheaper if you actually buy it in a store. Harvey Normal is selling a pre-order for the PC standard version for $62. That's $58 cheaper than the Steam gold edition cost.
Well.. I don't know about that. 10 hours of gameplay, that's like 5 days of 2 hour sessions. for the price of a small fries.
You also get Early Access (November 12th)
Early impressions from media is that the game has very little bugs and feels 10x better than the beta. This is excellent news. Apparently Orbital is the worst map too, which is weird. Interesting tactics by DICE, maybe they're trying to pull a No Man's Sky and impress everyone so much from the difference between beta and release that they buy it? Anyway, glad bugs are gone, performance is better and the maps are actually good.
I'm going to get EA Play for a month to get the 10 hour trial. Unfortunately my PC is out of action whilst I RMA my motherboard, so I will be using my PS5. Thank god for cross-platform play and progression. Hopefully my keyboard and mouse work...
Early access starts on Friday.
I might just do the $1 EA Play thing as well, although I'll probably blow through the trial in half a day lol.
EA just released the Portal website:
It didn't take me long at all to setup a 128 player Battlefield 3 mode without Jets, and removing all the zoomer movement (no slides, no strafe sprinting), slightly slow the respawn speed, slightly increase headshot damage, 5x tickets with a 30 minute time limit, go back to old school medpack & repair tool healing and return to BF2 spawning only on the squad leader or a beacon and ban shotgun frags.
Got the experience code "aaabda".
Is it just me or did they say you could recreate BF2 moments in the portal but there's no BF2 maps?
Also no BF2 squad system, commander, objectives and so much more...
can't wait now, paid my $1 xbox gamepass
after the funereal fark
