Well considering dice worked with another studio to make bf2 and then dismantled them I doubt we will ever see a real successor.

My opinion has been just re-release bf2 and 2142 without the need for game spy. Don't change the engine as I think that's half the problem. I can't put my finger on it but after 2142 they went more codish with the size of the players etc.

Bring back the commander!!! BF2 wasn't just about the large scale and variety of weapons and vehicles, it was about how a great squad(s) with a great commander could defeat a team of elite individual players.

This. Shooting people in the face with the carl gustav and drinking their tears was crazy fun.

even the badges and ribbons, they were such a grind or steep difficulty.

and they didn't sound like a slot machine.

I even loved the loading music, just so many good memories of BF2.

Looks great to me with a few obvious issues

    Karkand nade spam
    Voice spam
Poor quality audio - This is because it was build for Windows XP with a Creative Sound card and EAX.

There's a few other small issues, but overall this is all something a game patch would fix.

That video also doesn't represent some of the great commander and squad gameplay that everyone used to have.

The type of community a revived game would have is going to be completely different compared to what it once was.

I disagree, I thought it looked awful. But you're right, the video doesn't show the great moments that really made this game.

Pretty bad.. but wasn't expecting much so in context, not bad?! Good enough to just dabble in

There's only 1 sometimes 2 Aussie servers, and only occasionally populated. I either play on oz one or a couple of the bearable (lag wise) OS servers with ppl on them. Don't be fooled by looking at server numbers, a lot are bots. Aus server has I think 12 bots.

twas really good, and subtlety themed by region.

Sure made 'optimizing shaders' less painful. If I had to sit through BF3 or 4 loading music (noise) for that long i'd have stabbed myself in the ear. Thank god for SSD's by then

One can hope, BF has been dumbed down for the masses.

Yep I haven't played regularly since BF3, tapering off ever since BF2. It's too COD-like these days. I preferred it when you didn't have to have lightning quick reflexes, you just had to outsmart people - make them chase you into a claymore, hide in a trench from a tank until you C4 it etc.

Yeah it just feels like a larger deathmatch arena with flags.
I wonder how the dynamics of the game would change if you were in a squad and the squad leader could assign roles to squad mates according to current scenarios.. I can see both pros and cons. The game is too individualistic, not properly playing as a team towards the objective and only really thinking of their own k/d stats. So many times, there has been the need for someone to take out a tank in a critical position and no one wants to front up with the appropriate class to deal with it, if squad leaders could assign roles (yes against the will of the member) it would give the leader powers to turn the tide. Could be cool, or maybe not lol

the only real way of doing that (which has been done before, think it was Red Orchestra 2????) is to limit the amount of classes you have, or limit classes per squad, which i dont think would be a bad idea, may make people not want to join squads, they'll just miss out on 50 million different squad badges, guns or camo's that will inevitably will be in the rewards...
