EA have announced the following games will no longer have any multiplayer online service, mainly due to Gamespy closing up shop.

    Story here.

Sad to see BF2 getting shut down, had a game the other month and it still had quite a few people playing it.

Yeah wow, never thought BF2 would shut shop... that basically means that game is unplayable.

9 years is a bloody good run though. How many other games can you say still have such a strong community after that length of time.

Well these games are still popular 10+ years after release..
Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3, Doom, Total Annihilation, Grand Prix Legends, Richard Burns Rally, Counter Strike, Half Life, Diablo 1, 2, Asherons Call, Star Craft, Warcraft 2 and 3, UT, Tribes 2, AOE2, EQ, Ultima Online, Halo, Warbirds, Worms 2, Soldier of Fortune, Populous, Mech Commander.. They are just the one's I can think of but they are still going strong.

EA are the publisher for most of those games, so they cou;d fix the games to work without Gamespy. Instead of doing this, they're doing nothing and letting the games die.

At least 1942 is still free on origin and there's plenty of custom servers to play on.

    You're kidding right?

EA and numerous other companies all used GameSpy. Time to get over it, BF2 and the rest of them had a good run.

bart5986 is right. People don't care about any of the extenuating circumstances. They simply choose to blame EA, because it's EA.

Are you going to have a whine at Ubisoft, Gearbox, Nintendo, Konami, Capcom, Koei, Firaxis and anyone else impacted by this?

Ok lets boycott Nintendo because their games have the same problem

Its not as easy as you might think to fix it. Considering the long list of companies and games that won't be fixed, I don't know why you would complain about one company and one of their game series.

    no, I'm not kidding.

and I do and have, but THIS thread is on EA, is it not?
Mind you, I haven't played an online game since the half life days.
they're all a rehash now and have been for a very long time.
I think a remake of syndicate wars but multi player could be a lot of fun though. :D you could make it look utterly fantastic now :o
if a game requires a dedicated server, I'm not buying it.

I don't think I have ever owned anything Nintendo., so yes, I have :D
I don't own nor play console games for several reasons though.
