It's contest time, again! Matt from Elated.com, an Australian web development blog, is giving away 3 copies of his latest eBook to OCAU readers. Master Mobile Web Apps with jQuery Mobile teaches you how to quickly create great mobile web apps using jQuery Mobile. It's a fully-up-to-date comprehensive guide, with free lifetime updates.

To enter, simply reply to this thread telling us your idea for the most pointless, silly or funny app you can think of. We'll allow entries for 2 weeks, then I'll choose my favourites and we'll have a poll to pick the winners.

Edit: entries will close at 12:01 AM on Tuesday 13th September.

An app that randomly generates text that can be submitted to contests that ask for silly or random app ideas.

    Sample output:
    Code:
    C:/> randomOutput.js
    * Ok, how about this guys: A smart wheel that rotates when someone enters a foyer! You know you'd buy it.

    C:/> randomOutput.js
    * Oh oh, I know!... : A program that keeps scores about a game, but also gives feedback based on the likability of the team! It sledges the away team! Think about it!

    C:/> randomOutput.js
    * Ok, ok, hear me out : A javascript program that composes sentences based on Natural Language principles, that can be used as mock-human responses to contests with cash/value rewards, in an attempt to get rich! It'll make millions!

    Basic output: <Random string enticing the audience> <Sentence scenario based off 3 x random noun generator> <Closing supporting text>

How about an application which teaches you how to launch applications? (It's just a single image, which when launched, says "Congratulations! You can now launch applications!")

me and my mates discussed phone apps at the pub, one of the best was the app that wrote apps for you just as you thought of the idea for that app...

...the other good app was the one that drew power from any source, like from the chemical reactions going on in a beer as the bubbles formed...

An app that randomly loads the OCAU forums in your phone's browser. Because we all forget to check OCAU regularly. :)

but the most pointless would be called...
"The Appletizer" an app that when maximized takes all your running programs and applets & puts them in their own shell Applet window, much like your G.U.I. was already doing except without all the cool features your gui no doubt had.

    -Not Iddrys @ the moment-

An app for iPhone that looks like the iPhone lock screen.

Works like the lock-screen, except it when you put in a password, it says that you've had too many attempts and the phone has been completely wiped, and then shows the back screen with the loading thing so it looks like it's turning off.

An app that is a step by step guide on how to count to 10.

    eg.
    Code:
    Step 1: 1
    Step 2: 2
    Step 3: 3
    ...
    Step 10: 10
An app that when opened has only one option. Exit.

An app where you enter what you want to find (eg, restaurant, shop, etc) and it tells you where it is but not how to get there.

An app that plays tic tac toe against itself.

A free "Guide to Flashlight Apps App" or GTFAA.. with in app purchases so you can purchase GTFAA reviews, beer and gifts for other GTFAA users.. also there will be a geo-social networking element + in app chat so GTFAA users can compare and discuss flashlight apps, along with a tamagotchi-esque GTFAACritters, which will require constant attention and feeding (in app food purchases).. also GTFAA will go through your contact list and suggest GTFAA "friends" and will require registration (and a valid email address) before you can review Flashlight Apps...
