I lashed out with the Thrustmaster HOTAS warthog as I've gone through 3 cheapo joysticks with varying degrees of success. Quite liking the throttle but I might end up replacing some of the toggles to pushbuttons or momentary action switches.

 

finally got myself to Colonia. had been hanging around the bubble waiting to see how odyssey went.
Got a few first discoveries, including 2 Earth Like worlds.
should earn enough on the return trip to get my explorer rank up to elite. debating whether I head to Sagitarius A* or save that for another time.

 

The late great Leonard Nimoy () talks about the Elite Dangerous Journey..

Latest update looks solid, keen to give it a crack once I get my gpu back from RMA.

 

My GOD Imperial ships are just pure sex. I really need to bring out my engineered-for-racing Imp Eagle more.

How many of you playing this with VR? How is the experience?

 

Yes, still one of the best space cockpit VR experiences around since 2014. Recommend a Joystick/HOTAS setup for full immersion.
But the new on-foot gameplay in the latest 2021 Odyssey DLC is not VR compatible, yet.

 

3500hrs in game total, 700hrs in VR. There is nothing quite like being able to track your target by keeping eyes-on, looking straight up while you're operating your joystick/throttle. Elite is STILL the best pew-pew space dogfighter game after 7 years... Star Citizen is good but isn't really comparable, for a host of reasons. And, not gonna lie, spending time in the galaxy map while stoned is... transcendental.

Not having on-foot VR compatibility in the new DLC was kick in the fucking teeth though.

 

Damn, I've had this game for a long time but never really got into it. I've been looking at excuses to get into VR and this might be it.

dont worry about the odyssey on foot stuff though - just fly in space - have a look at deep core mining - or dog fights in resource zones amongst the asteroids - or if on planets - the SRV
Do the neutron superhighway and freak-out a little with white dwarfs as well
A HOTAs set up does help - ED is is my favourite VR experience

 

I'm thinking of taking one of my cutters to colonia. Maybe hitch a ride on a carrier back.

 

Where is your own Fleet Carrier money bags?

Carrier max jump range of 500LY every 15 minutes, would take about 45 jumps / 15 hours from Sol to Colonia and use ~5-6K T of trit fuel depending on how much stuff your bringing along with you.

Carrier is handy when you’re helping someone new, jump them across the bubble much quicker than they’ll manage on their own.

 

Will do the final 100 or so jumps to Colonia tonight then on to Sagitarius A* then back to the bubble - only just hit Ranger rank so not sure if that loop will be enough for Elite. Might have to do a trip out on the other side of the galaxy.

 

Update 9 coming Thursday next week for Elite Dangerous: Horizons & Odyssey

- New graphics engine/lighting upgrades.
- New combat focused multi-crew SRV, The Scorpion.
- New Multi-limpet controller ship module, for many limpet roles in one module.
- New faction mission Hubs / NPCs at settlements based on the BGS.





Other new content announced coming soon:
- Megaship and Carrier FPS interiors.
- More mission expansion types, including "settlement defence".
- New CQC FPS PVP arenas.

 

Can't wait, and the multi-limpet controller is a great idea. Was annoying having to install multiple limpet controllers for different roles
