You are only looking at it from the consumer perspective. From the developers perspective, the Epic store is attractive with regards to fees, both store fees, and for developers using UE4, license fees. So if the games are only sold there, and people want to play them, they won't have a choice.
this is very true, epic aren't stupid - they've gone after devs with money and consumers are getting free shit. the fortnite store is a way for epic to break into digital distribution with all that money they are making.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is free for a week on Epic: https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/free-games Assassin's Creed Syndicate free next week.
No there are a few people who take every opportunity to mention how they think epic games are killing the gaming industry by getting exclusive deals.
I signed up ages ago to get free games but then work blocked gaming sites and I kept forgetting to do it when I got home.... I still don't have any free games.
I'll have you know that I'm doing that while also redeeming free games. I have no problem using their money, I'm just not going to give them any money. Having said that I haven't played any of the games yet and it doesn't look like I will as I have all the good stuff on Steam already. I actually recommended everyone redeem Kingdom Come on Epic because its such a great game.
Epic Games buys an upgrade - with the addition of a publishing arm. Yes they are now also publishers. First 3 to sign are Remedy (Control, Max Payne) Playdead (Inside, Limbo) and genDesign - headed up by the legendary Fumito Ueda, director of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.
If they now own the IP they could pull it from other platforms after whatever agreement they have expires
Be interesting to see the sales of timed exclusives during Epic exclusivity period vs after other stores got it
