Fair enough, I just figured since Oculus really only properly beat them to the idea, not the final release, they would lose the term "pioneered" but I guess it depends how you look at it.

Well if you want to be that specific to the term.

They didn't pioneer virtual reality, plenty of virtual reality products before them using the similar concepts.

They didn't pioneer room scale virtual reality (Valve did)

They didn't pioneer VR roomscale controllers (Valve did)

They didn't pioneer stereoscopic 3D in virtual reality.

They didn't pioneer Roomscale positional tracking (Valve did)

They didn't pioneer low-persistence displays which make lag-free and smear-free display of VR content possible (Valve did and shared it with Oculus who then used it)

When you really think about it, Valve were the ones that actually pioneered the cool stuff

they brought VR back in a big way bart5986 when they dropped the Oculus on kickstarter. VR was in no man's land before that.

neither of them pioneered it though, VR has been around for fucking years.

Ask yourself this Bart, before the original kickstarter from Oculus, who was talking about VR?

    I fully agree.

But that doesn't mean they pioneered it.

The original idea and kickstarter was what made everyone interested, then Valve took over and made it actually good.

I used development kits from both companies and it was quite obvious Oculus was not where it needed to be.

End of discussion. Even you agree they were the first to implement a VR kit in the current age.

Your original argument was that Valve created what VR is today. Which is 100% incorrect, Oculus did that.

How does that make any sense?

VR today is completely different to what Oculus originally created.

Oculus sparked the idea and interest for VR.

You are implying they had something to do with roomscale, controllers, VR displays and many other great concepts that exist today, which they had nothing to do with.

Is it, really? Your argument that controllers and not being tethered to a box are completely different concepts to what Oculus made?

So Henry Ford didn't pioneer the auto mobile, it was actually Tesla, Graham Bell didn't pioneer the telephone, it was actually Motorola.

    Right?

I'm talking about the original Oculus. The Oculus quest is a great product (Although just mobile VR as an entire product)

You seem to be confusing pioneering something with "created what VR is today" which is not the same thing when you consider the huge progress we've made.

The fact that you are comparing creating the automobile to someone that took an existing VR concept that was completely outdone by a superior VR product on release... Completely not the same thing.

Conan Exiles - is NOT free this week - in fact hours before it was due to release, it was pulled from the store. A vague statement saying it would be available to buy at a later date did nothing to shed light on the situation - surely some last minute spat between Epic and Funcom over the several years old game.
