Its basically an unlimited free trial, and looking at the skills there not much you can do money making wise....not time efficiently anyway. Maybe FW...but if ccp sees this they'll just ban the alpha from joining FW. Hisec ganking probably the biggest issue...but in saying that all they got to do if that got out of control is lock green safetys for alphas in hisec.

I dont think CCP has everything to lose with this strategy...but I still think the game is dying a slow (very slow) and painful death. Maybe half the sub prices and you mite get ppl back again...but in saying that..its still eve so idk.

Let me know if anyone wants to buy some 130m+ SP accounts lol

Was subs really keeping new players out? I felt the alliances, politics, steep learning curve and time-investment-before-fun-stuff put most of my friends off.

Don't see a problem with them implementing / giving it a go. Worst thing that could happen is more whinging on CCP forums. :D

Used to run with a corp building cap ships / titans :)

Apparently skill injectors are thing now, you can start a new account and have all the skills you want that day if you have the Isk.

Yeah, this was the point I gave up completely on the game.

Seriously cheapened the years of investment people put into characters in a developer cash grab.

I think its still limiting to skills, so a free account cant have certain skills, guessing weapon specialisations etc.

Basically if only allow upto roughly 5mil SP...most core skills max to 4, guns skill to 3/4...its not really a big thing tbh...just think of it as a unlimited free trial instead of 2 weeks.

    Basically, yes.

The skills a "free" character can train has limits. No combat ships bigger than a cruiser, T1 and faction only, no T2 ships. Mining is limited to the Venture, free characters cannot train for mining barges or T2 mining lasers. Cargo ships are limited to the small and medium T1 ships.

Free characters will be able to train into T2 tanking modules, many of the T2 modules only need the relevant basic skill at IV.

Weapons are limited to small and medium turrets and launchers, T1 and faction only, same for ammo and combat drones (light and medium only, no heavy or sentry drones).

A free character is limited to ships and weapons of their starting race, so a free character that starts as Amarr will only be able to train into Amarr ships and the weapon types used by Amarr (plus the Venture since it isn't race specific).

Market activity will have limits, based on limiting the number of simultaneous buy and sell orders and simultaneous contracts.

If you have a paid/plexed account and you let the subscription expire, your character is still playable but you are restricted to the skill set of a free character. Your other skills are still there, but you will need to plex or renew your subscription to use the non-free skills.

"Free" characters will also train skills at a slower rate compared to paid/plexed characters. I don't know how much slower, just that CCP say they will train at a slower rate. Free characters will not be able to use skill extractors.

    EDIT:
In other news, the latest PvE event hasn't started too well. A new NPC faction was created with combat sites. When you complete the sites, you lose standing with Amarr, but storywise it's the Amarr who ask you to complete those sites. Do what the Amarr ask you to do and they end up hating you for it. The devs are aware of it and have said on the forums that they'll reverse the standing loss people got.
They'll probably do a database log extract and then run a script to give back the standings people lost from the sites.

So I haven't played for nearly a year now, kept characters subbed though, main just hit 161m SP. Trying to get back into it but moving is just such a pain in the ass.

13 cap jumps to go halfway across the map.

I PLEXed off free trial about 5 years ago by mining and station trading. I had been gold capped in WOW and set myself a challenge of only playing if i could pay with PLEX. Then continued to PLEX my account and played as a lvl 4 mission runner for about 8 months total before unsubbing.

then about a 18 months ago I started a new 21 day trial flew directly to Providence nullsec after the career agents and did no station trading or mission running because i realised I was bored of highsec last time. i scavenged other peoples wrecks and did a bit of exploration and nullsec -> highsec market arbitrage. made enough for a PLEX in a little over two weeks and then got all my stuff out to the safety of highsec while the Goon invasion fleet was rolling through. but unsubbed due to life getting hectic.

about six months ago i grabbed another 21 day trial and jumped straight into faction war. made enough for 4 PLEX in under two weeks. I had so little SP i needed to train stuff just so i could fly the ships i was buying with LP to market and sell them for profit. definitely doable on a free account.

is a good Faction War farming guide if you want to turn a free account into a paid account by what you earn in game.

Sold off all my stuff except my super as it's just too far to take all my gear.

Not sure i'll be able to get back into the game though, i've forgotten how much of my life it takes up......

    750LP per 10-20m....
    That's 750k-1000k isk before tax.
    Run 2-4 sites a session that's 4m a day. There are 30~ days in a month so... 30x3m = 300m. A plex has gone from 800m to 1000m to 1200+m.

How do you even get one plex from this?

Hi mate, no ocau corp, not sure there's many playing from here anymore.

Are you looking at PvP? If so, welcome to come and join us if you wanna jump in the deep end, we provide frigates and help for new players, alternatively there's a few corps that are made for new players, the most notable being Eve university and red Vs blue.

Thanks very much for the invite - I think I'll give exploring a go for a couple of weeks and learn the general mechanics a bit more than I think I'll look you up :)

    At Tier 4:
    - an offensive novice gives 25000LP in 15 minutes
    - a defensive novice with 50% contested system gives 9375 in 10 minutes
    - a defensive large with 50% contested system gives 28125 in 20 minutes

my best hour was 100m which is comparable to VNI nullsec ratting. but offensive is not as consistent as defensive as you have to travel more often. i probably averaged 50-60m an hour.

and i played more than an hour a day. perhaps more like 70-80 hours over the two weeks i was testing this out.

Hey guys just getting back into Eve Online. Got a couple of fairly advanced characters (blackops, etc)but have basically forgotten how to play, so wondering if there is a local OCAU group I might be able to link up with to learn the ropes again?

Just a note to say that CCP will be changing the skill point limit of Alpha clones in December this year. There hasn't been a devblog from CCP about it yet but they did announce the change about 2 weeks ago at the Eve Vegas convention.

Alphas will be able to train up to battleships (currently limited to cruisers and the Gnosis battlecruiser) and will be able to train into T2 weapons. Also the race/empire ship limit will be lifted, Alphas will be able to crosstrain into ships that are not from their starting empire.

There will still be a skillpoint limit for Alphas, it will just be higher than the current limit. No details yet about T2 ships. mining ships bigger than the Venture or larger cargo ships. I suspect T2 ships will not be an option for Alphas, I'm waiting to see a devblog from CCP for more details about the change.
