Schnappy, it depends on what you want to do. Hisec mining is one of the most tedious activities available in Eve, IMO, especially solo mining. If you're doing that to build up some isk to pay for other things, I did that too. The only time I mine these days is if I need minerals to make stuff, I don't mine for isk.

If you wanted to join a group to have some company while you play, there's a bunch of newbie friendly corps available, but they don't all do things the same way. Some focus on teaching newbies things that are useful to the corp, and while that can make you a better player, the benefit to the corp can sometimes outweigh the benefit to the player. Eve University is a bit different, it's a player corp that was set up specifically to teach newbies how to play Eve. In simple terms, if something can be done in Eve, Eve Uni can teach you how to do it, and benefitting the corp never takes first place over benefitting the players. Compared to other newbie friendly corps, Eve Uni has stricter rules about what new players should/should not do, but this is to prevent inexperienced players from doing dumb things that cause expensive mistakes to themselves. Even if you don't want to join Eve Uni, they run in-game public classes that anyone in Eve can participate in. https://forums.eveonline.com/t/eve-university-free-public-classes-on-everything-eve/7047

Suppose I had better try and play at some stage again. still subbed and main at 213m SP, couple of super alts all sitting in null sec.

I log in periodacally to make sure my alliance hasn't lost it's space, but besides that, can't find the time to sit on a computer for hours on end.

The next main update will be released at the end of this month, titled "Invasion".

The Triglavian NPC faction which was added to the game last year will feature in the update, as well as changes to the war dec system.

Exact details haven't been announced yet. Here's the first Dev blog on the update: https://www.eveonline.com/article/pqzg86/the-invasion-is-coming-may-28th

The Invasion update went live last night. From what I've seen so far it's a variation of Sansha incursions but with the Triglavian faction as the hostiles.
Definitely not solo content but if there is a limit on the size of player fleets to fight the invasions, it isn't obvious yet (incursion reward payouts get reduced if the player fleet fighting at an incursion site is over a set numbers of players, with different incursion sites having different player fleet limits).

Invasions appear to be smaller in size than incursions (the number of systems taken over) but there are more of them. I saw three separate invasion locations not far from Hek last night. As far as I know there are hard limits on how many incursions can be active at any time (no more than 2 each in hisec, losec and null at the same time). Another difference is that incursions spawn special combat sites in the systems they take over. I did a bit of scouting around in one invasion just to see what was happening and didn't find any specific sites, just fleets of hostile NPC ships roaming around between the belts, planets and moons in each system. Just like incursions, invasions apply system wide debuffs to all player ships inside an invaded system, but invasions also apply some buffs to player ships as well.

I didn't bother looking to see if there were any invasions happening in losec, I only saw them in hisec last night. If I had to sum up invasions, based on what I've seen so far it would be "player fleet ratting in hisec with the rat spawn rate turned up to 11". If you're going to put the boot to the invasion rats, bring some friends, and have some logi support.

There's a 64 bit client in open beta as well now.

The new event basically pointless...no loot as other people just steal your loot and salvage anyway...basically another crap event ppl will stop running in a week or 2. Waste of time losing your ship with no reward....basically like the abyss dead space..but at least you might get your pod out in the new event..zzz

Low sec and to a lesser degree high sec will be the winners out of the current base ore changes, because the lack of nocxium and megacyte in sov-null is pushing imports and driving the prices up of ores with those minerals.
You might have to send a PVP alt out my way to kill some time. :Pirate:

Lowsec has a few belts/anolimiles with nocx and mega but hisec will have nothing, you'll get the little nocx from pyroxeres in normal belts and thats it. If its real bad, i mite just move to ice

aren't all the belts just full of diamond rats these days?

In null, literally every belt is completely stripped by them.

Yeah, but the overall reductions, and the inability to spam rorqs in null is where the increased demand will come from across the board. When they remove normal ore from moons, it'll be even more pronounced.

They seem to be more dynamic now, we're loosely based in a -0.8 system and they seem to increase in size the longer you mine and based on how many people are in the belt. I still mine in anoms for the most part, but the crystal crokite that spawns in belts is useful, I've noticed some weird behaviour from the rats, they seem to spawn in, and after you pop everything up to cruiser size, they often warp off.

    hey all o7

Haven't played this since not long after the Trinity graphics update. Sunk a lot of time into it. My guy's main party trick was flying a tricked out Nyx

Is this game any less like a job you pay to do yet?

I recall seeing a first-person patch where you could walk around your quarters. If you can socialise with others in public places I might be sold on trying this again

At it's core, it's much the same, just with more shinies.
Walking In Stations (Apocrypha was it?) was axed about 2-3 years ago. Captain's Quarters removed and all. With Triglavians, Filaments, and a whoooole heap of shit since Trinity, it could be worth jumping on just for a look. You can use your old toon as an Alpha Pilot (free, just the Omega class skills won't be usable) to have a look around of course :)
