also see the 10400, your not going to buy a 10100 and a z490 board. so your stuck with 266Mhz ram which cripples the chips.

    I said gaming IPC.

An AMD chip might beat an Intel by 10% in cinebench but that same chip will be down in gaming frames per second. So there is easily a 10+% total difference between gaming FPS and cinebench results. I can't explain this large difference but I see it time and time again.

If the cinebench IPC then shows a 6% win over intel clock for clock then really it is 4+% loss in gaming IPC.

    From your post...

You specifically said clock vs clock and then used an example to show that a Ryzen CPU would need to be a higher clock speed to match a lower clocked intel. Clearly this is not the case.

No one disputes that intel has an advantage in gaming. That advantage comes from 3 main sources - a higher clockspeed, lower latency and better game engine optimisations.

In your example the 10100 would actually need o be clocked at well over the 3300x clockspeeds to match it on a clock for clock basis all other things being equal. It may still be faster in some games depending on how sensitive they are to memory and core to core latency etc.

Cheers - I hope that clears up the point I was trying to make. Not disputing the gaming advantage Intel has particularly by its higher end chips.

In regards to clock versus clock I said "5-10% IPC gaming advantage."
    Not "5-10% IPC cinebench advantage."

That website graph shows only cinebench IPC. I'm certain clock versus clock the intel 10th gen will get better frame rates per core.

It would interesting to see the 3300X set to all core 4.1ghz to match the 10100 that does all core 4.1ghz. I would bet that the Intel would have higher game FPS with the same RAM etc.

But as there is no cheap 10100F the value is lost and the 3300X be slightly cheaper. People are talking like the 3300X is the best thing since sliced bread.

...show me the 30 games reviews from hardware unboxed (yeh they are amd biased but stats are stats). they usually give a good comparison of where amd are ahead and where intel is ahead.
. haven't seen enough stats yet.

just a slight add to this the 3600 vs 10400

The intel has the higher all core turbo........all other things are as equal as they could be

The intel performance is somewhat .....less

    To quote the techspot review
Yes that's similiar clockspeeds, powerdraw, cost, cores and threads - so I guess the the Intel has less gaming I.P.C's - when things are equal. You could call this a clock for clock loss for intel if you didnt understand what the term actually meant.......

actually i was having a bit of a squiz at intel options last night. the H470 boards support 2933 ddr4 speeds apparently. but still, its limited, when ddr4-3600+ kits are fairly common now.

So what's everyone's pick for a decent ATX Z490 board, there aren't any review roundups yet. Not that I've seen anyway.

Thanks mate, that is a good overview. I see a lot of time spent watching in depth reviews on YT because there are soooo many models that look very good on paper.

They have to be decent to manage the power draw.

Intel CEO Bob Swan said this
Intel have nothing for the foreseeable future anyone banging on about 10nm parts coming in to make them competitive aren't learning from the past few years. They are in a better position than AMD was with Bulldozer but they have dug themselves into a big hole.

Apparently Intel released some new CPUs recently, I can't be sure though because you can't buy them.

Pretty good price, I'd be tempted with that price. Was that the Au site with Au $? And including del?
