Just moving the contents of one drive to another and I'm getting speeds of 86-90 MB/s. Does that sound right?

    From: Seagate Barracuda 3TB
    To: WD Green 5TB

    Depends on the content.

But for 7200rpm drives that's acceptable.

Sounds about right to me. I usually don't even get those speeds.

OK cool, just wanted to check. It just seems painfully slow transferring 3TB of data..

I'm not actually looking forward to migrating my 20TB of data off my GbE served NAS to another NAS for this reason.

I have marked the issue in RED for you. Slowest drives you can buy.

Actually what I see on my 8TB Seagates is 100mb/sec+ (depending on source) for the first 20gb, then after that the speeds vary, mostly between 25 and 70mb/sec.

I just moved 49GB from my Samsung SSD to a HGST 3.5" NAS drive @ 255mb/sec. No idea what speeds would be in the other direction though.

I have just moved some small (300mb) to larger (3GB+) from a storage space (Windows 8.1) of 2 x 3TB Greens to a Segate 2GB. I was getting between 95 and 105mb/sec. Total data moved was 905GB. There were some drops, but only for a second or two. So, your speeds aren't too bad.
