A company is advertising a smartphone that is designed and produced with minimal harm to people and the planet.

They are on their second generation of phone at the moment.

Sorry for the bump, but wondering, has anyone got/used one of these fairphones ?

I like the idea of being able to get parts and things being made to be taken apart and pieces of it replaced as needed instead of throwing the whole phone away when one module part dies.

You pay for the convenience of self-repair - something that can be done with almost any phone with a few cheap tools and a youtube video, or pay someone at a kiosk. In the mean time, you have an average phone at best. It's one of those things that sounds better than it ends up actually being, and is 'green' because they pay extra in their supply chain.

They cost ~$1000 AUD for a phone that's got worse specs than a Samsung A52s which costs about half that.

Also they're a pain to get into Australia since they don't ship overseas + restrictions on batteries being shipped. I'd be surprised if anyone in Australia has it.

Defeats the purpose of a fixable phone when it cost three times as much for a similar spec phone.

Niche sales market, but there will always be people who this appeals to so they can do their little bit to save the planet.

This is the first time I've heard of these phones.
