On another note, what is the legality of having a gun room (with proper security features in place obviously, bars on windows, reinforced door etc) in Australia? I'm guessing no.. but someone might know.

Planning on becoming a vigilante? :p

I think you're going to have to contact your state firearms registry but at a guess I'd say it'll be along the lines of a dealers requirements so solid external walls (ie brick or concrete), solid core doors with 2 locking points, bars on windows, good monitored alarm system and then within the room the firearms will need to be on racks which they're secured to by cable or similar or in locked display cases.

How many guns do you have? It'd want to be a lot to even consider it IMO.

That's why I had a custom one made to fit a space I had. Should hold about 16 rifles.

    Nice vid Merudo.

:DHave done all my paperwork for my trip to NZ later in the year for their IPSC and 3 Gun Nationals. Just have to wait until 28 days before we fly out to lodge my customs paperwork on this end. NZ Customs were great and issued my visitors license within a couple of days as well as my export permit to bring my pistol back out of NZ.

Relatively easy to take my pistol out and bring it back in, just a matter of getting the right forms and working out which bits to fill in  Tried ringing Customs and even the bloke there had no idea which bits to fill in on one of the forms or what half the stuff even meant. Got there in the end though.

Just for some droolworthiness, check out what I will be using while I am there. Mmmm 30 round mags :wired: Also lined up a Remington 870 pump :) Please note that while these firearms are not permitted here they are all legal in NZ and I will have the appropriate license (along with B and E endorsements) to shoot them.

The Kiwis do have some things going for them after all :D

For something like this you need to construct the room to the specifications of a bunker under AU/NZ standards I'd wager. Solid roof and walls, lockable doors, and all windows steel barred from the inside.

So hopefully this week the girlfriend will recieve her Cat H license. Then we can go shopping :)

The question is, because we have never been to the brissy gun shops. Is it worth while visiting brisbane gun stores to try out some handguns. Try out meaning hold and see which is nicest in the hand etc. Not necessarily firing.

We were thinking QGE, Cleavers and maybe Gold Coast Shooters.
Do they have many handguns in stock?

They have enough to give you an idea of what you may want. Cleaver and QGE are good bets for stock.

Putting in a PTA for a ruger .22lr, one of those 22/45 sorta things. Sucks I have to wait 12 months before I can ramp up my acquisition rate.

Go to QGE and Cleavers before heading down to the Gold Coast. The chance of Gold Coast Shooters having anything different enough to make the journey worthwhile is not very high. In the case of .22s virtually everywhere will have a Ruger and/or a Browning Buckmark. Maybe a S&W or a Beretta. When it comes to centrefire everywhere will have a Glock, a 1911 (felt one, felt em all really), a 2011 and a couple of wheel guns. In reality, the choice isn't that vast here anyway.

If you don't like what you find in brisbane give GCS a call and see what they have ins tock before spending the time going down there.

How do you know they are not permitted in Australia? I am sure you can with the right category on your license ;)

Well, yes, they are permitted on a Cat D but almost nobody can get that so for all intents and purposes they are not permitted here.

You can get a Remington 870 on a Cat C but there is a restriction on capacity still.

Thanks for the replies, I rang QGE, Cleavers, and GCShooters. Looks like none of them have CZ's in stock but hopefully we can order one. At the very least we can see some of the stuff they have and my GF can hold a couple of options.

Turns out GCShooters is closed saturday and sunday :( they said CZ stock was coming atleast but I can't take time off to go gun shopping unfortunatly.

Hopefully we will be able to find something tomorrow.

Timmy, have you considered going to local pistil clubs when they have competitions on. This can be a great way to look at lots of different pistols and most shooters are only to pleases to let you have a feel.
Most of the pistol shops don't carry a large range of New pistols in stock, because of the massive range there are available, therefore a massive cost.
    I have a 9mm CZSP01. If you're ever down near Belmont I can give you a look.
I didn't think that Gold Coast or Cleavers carried CZ Pistols. I got mine from the importer. Mike.

We have gone to a few clubs, I've shot about 20 different pistols, but im going for the CZ Shadow. Ordered it at QGE and the girlfriend ordered the same. So there will be two CZs in the family :)

    Now for the wait...

We will definatly come down to Belmont one day when we get our hands on our guns.

Am beginning to think seriously about getting into military surplus rifles. Is there a ready supply of ex-military caliber bulk ammo these days or has it all dried up? I don't care if it's corrosive.
