i am soo tempted to upgrade to a 580. My 480 only 6 weeks old or whatever and don't know what the hype was about when it came to temps as i haven't had a prob with it. Even bought a zalman cooler for it but haven't bothered or felt i needed to put it on. Temp is 47 now with fan speed at 44%

I was at first too, but I don't wanna spend more money for what is suppose to be a refresh (A very good one I might add, though).

Thats why I just OCed my 480s to 580 speeds or higher to keep me happy :).

Can't you create custom fan and overclock profiles in the afterburner app anyway? What's the point of the flash?

you dont have to use afterburner.
afterburner also doesnt have delayed fan ramping, it will change on each polling cycle, results in very erratic fan speeds.

The flash allows I higher volt increase, you will find the gpu bottlenecks when it does not get enough volts and sometimes it throttles from the lack of power and say in benches can result in a lower score with higher clock.

My 570 does 920 with max volts without the flash in AB. It just won't go any further it just crashes randomly, usually my system will restart so the gpu is safe. I'm not keen on taking it any further for benches as I could loose it lol, if I was going water I would but I usually don't keep my hardware long enough to fork out block etc...

I'm guessing when Ka0sX get his wc gear all delivered he can then push the 580 more as he like myself bottleneck around the 945 core speed.

    Good info mate.

I have just flashed my pair of 580's to allow higher fan speed limit. No problem at all

    Cheers.

Is this still the current way to flash GTX580 bioses? I want to fix the fan profile on my reference EVGA card, and access to more volts for more mhz can't hurt either. :leet:

Cheers. I just started following the guides and already hit a roadblock. 'FermiBiosEditor 1.55' doesn't do anything once I load my stock BIOS. :(

Time to start reading forums to fix this.

Disregard, I went down the page, and am following the guide for 'Nibitor'... :)

EDIT2: I'm good. I only changed the fan profile and allow a high max voltage. Might bench it a bit harder later on, but now, its off for some gaming. :)
