Shhh! Trying to keep that place as much a secret as possible. My gf lives 5 minutes around the corner so I'm there almost every weekend. There is one stall that makes these grilled sandwiches with chorizo that make me salivate just thinking about

Things that suck...weather but summers can be amazing, if its busy like stuck on a bus in traffic or a packed train.

I think Australia is expensive when I visit, especially groceries!!

 

I'm with you bud. London is fucking amazing and I hate big cities. Food at restaurants is expensive and I would never eat a GR lol but alcohol more than equals that equation. As for smoking I never noticed it and I am pretty sensitive to it.

 

I went for the 6 month see Europe thing ended up staying in London for 17 yrs one of the most amazing places on the planet.

 

If you went to london for three week for work, why are you worried about how expensive food is, surely work pays for expenses.

 

Because it had been on my list of places to visit and possibly live. It's no longer on that list.

But I'm spoiled after living in Singapore. My last tax bill in Australia was 22k, my last tax bill in Singapore was 3.4k, on a higher salary. Cost of living here is less, so it suits my live style.

So besides I don't smoke or drink, London is a superrrrrrr boring city. Traveling around isn't easy either.

 

Do you live in tent or something? Or employer pays housing?

 

London was nice to visit but i won't live there. Just a shit fight. I'm now in Wales and live in a forest. It's much more my style

edit: i was going to say why would you live there, but if you can live in the countryside towns nearby its probably a nice compromise.

 

No, I pay for my own apartment. 2 Bedroom apartment, HDB block of flats, outside the bus-stop, across the road from the mall, which has a gym, and pool. 5 Minutes walk to 1 MRT station, 10 minutes walk to the other MRT station.

Outside of London is really nice. And people are much nicer too!

 

I think at the end of the day some people like living in big cities, and some people like living in places with less hustle and bustle. To live in London, you really have to be the former and that’s where I fall in.

 

How much would you roughly pay per month for a similar rental?

 

The apartment is 2.5k/m split between 2.
- City area
- Next to busstop
- Walking distance to MRTs
- On top of a supermarket
- Across the road from a mall with Gym/Pool/Supermarket

As a comparison I had an apartment in Pyrmont in Sydney for 2.8k/m 2 bedroom. With not as much convince.

- Next to Tram
- Walking distance to george st
- Across road from super market

 

That SG price isn't bad, but your pyrmont apartment is a lot more than I would expect/pay.

The apartment in Pyrmont was huge. In The Palladium.

I viewed many apartments in the area and they were shoe boxes, one I visited, the lounge was like ~1m wide when you have a tv cabnet and couch on either wall, another apartment was laid out so poorly that I wouldn't be able to get my couch in the front door.

These were all 1.7-2.4k

I paid the extra to have the real nice apartment on high floor facing the cliff, so it was super quiet.

 

650 / week for a 2 bedder is actually pretty cheap - is that a few years ago?

Around Surry Hills / Darlinghurst / Pyrmont type areas I would expect any decent 2 bedder to be 800+ per week.

 

Lived in the apartment for 4 years. But moved to Singapore 3 1/2 years ago.

 

What kind of industry do you work in? Im interested in moving to Asia in 2 years.

 

Software Dev/Architect.

I was going to move to Europe after a few years in Asia.

I'm never leaving Asia, I absolutely love it here.
