You can't expect a bunch of code monkeys to get too creative.

Still, I appreciate it's art style. They must've run out of brown making GOW.

    Agree on both counts.

Hopefully the play style isn't too childish.

Seems a good concept. Could be done well. Love the art style. Happy to see PC exclusive and UE4.

I'm also a bit worried. I don't trust Epic just yet to do a proper PC game again...I'm worried that it'll have some F2P bollocks tacked onto it.

I wonder if they'll even remember to turn off thumbstick acceleration.

Fortnite director admits that Minecraft was "an inspiration.

Translation: "This was as much as our copyright lawyers let us do, damn their oily hides!"

Also, this hints that it could very well be F2P...

" It sounds like Epic plans to roll out this game in waves, first a friends and family beta, then a closed beta, then a public beta, all the while taking in feedback from gamers. We see this model in many free-to-play MMOs, like Firefall. This obviously leads me to speculate Fortnite will be free to play."

    Shit.

    Because F2P immediately = bad?

I'll concede that I don't like most F2P game models but there are a few gems. Too many have pay2win, or paying for game content that would have cost you less if you just bought the thing in the first place. HON was better value when it cost money. Dota2 is using a pretty fantastic model.

Also don't we see also similar beta programs in paid games?

Not really, unless it means you get basic building abilities, but then they decide anything advanced will cost you $2 per tool/plan/colour and the rest of it

Looks like the game is now in Early Access mode.

Yeah, unfortunately seems to have fallen a bit flat. Apparently the first 10-15 hours are wayyyy too easy, and after that the f2p mobile-phone-like grind is crazy.

The premium currency that they hand out a bunch of early on stops after the second zone which hamstrings those unwilling to continue throwing money at the llama pinatas.

Pretty disappointing to see this monetisation from Epic... they could've made a great buy to play game, and instead made a freemium pay to win game.

I'm enjoying it a lot, but playing as a casual pick-up game rather than burning heaps of hours into it.

Played a bit. There could be some fun here but the game is just far too easy. I haven't been under any threat at all so far, just a ridiculous cake walk.

    How far did you get?

One or 2 Shield Defences into Plankerton and I went from easy mode to struggle town.

It's pretty good fun, my kids are enjoying it and there's a surprising amount of depth and build management.

Edit: Only bought the standard, no free codes :(
